I’m happy to see them trying to make moves to get better. They are going to pay a price in a trade and the other team has to be willing to consider moving someone they have invested in to make it work.

It will be interesting to see the changes in the depth chart and who gets moved.

Should be some more changes coming over the next couple of weeks

Getting a younger guard with starting experience isn't easy.. he may have been waived.. or he may have been traded to someone else. The opportunity cost is what we don't really know. I guess we'll see what kind of talent hits the open market and waiver wire this week.

Doubtful he would have made it past the Bears and Cardinals in the waiver wire process. Rams are behind them.
Def not the Bears but the Cards are all in on the tank so not sure I see them being that active on the waiver wire. Sure, they'll pick up a backup QB like they did earlier so the games aren't abysmal but they are putrid and have done nothing to improve that.

Oh.. also.. it's possible McVay's relationship with Tomlin is a part of this. I'm hoping they had a conversation about the player.

This is an odd one - there must be something up not sure what but he is a starting Guard caliber why?

That's a good point as well if he was up on waivers. Was he eligible to hit waivers tho? I'm only asking since I'm just not sure on how that works.

"Hey Mike. What can you tell me about Dotson?"
"Well Sean, let me ask you this. Are you tanking for Caleb Williams or Drake Maye?"
"Yeah".
"He can help you with that".
I laughed.

But.. unless they trade Kupp and Stafford.. they won't be bad enough to be able to get Williams or Maye, imo.

My take on this is pretty simple. Dotson seems better than the worst OL we would have kept otherwise, so it is an upgrade. We effectively trade a 4th round pick for 6th (the 5th's cancel out). He has experience and still has potential for improvement.

Boom is safe. Bruss hasn’t worked out and is heading for the practice squad
I hope that if they like any of the young Olineman a lot, that they don’t keep Allen, Boom, or Bruss and then lose the guy they liked by trying to get him on the PS
Glad to see McVay not being content with a “hope and prayer” strategy with the OL this year.
We can’t be certain that this is what that means.
I'm glad to have more depth on the OL, and potentially a starting OG, however, basically moving down 2 rounds in both draft and next years draft seems a bit of an overpay for a guy that may have been cut tomorrow. If we have a tough season, that 4th rounder is close to a late 3, Steelers never have a bad year, so their pick may be close to an early 6th. Not a fan of the compensation.

Also, if I recall correctly, when Dotson was starting for them, their line was kind of a disaster. Now that is not only on him, they did add new pieces since that time, but, he was a part of it. I'm hoping for the best, but kind of sick and tired of overpaying in every single trade.
If Dotson ends starting and playing well l, then it wouldn’t be an overpay. But I agree, they gave up some valuable picks in this trade.

The fives cancel out, so ultimately this is an early 4th for a mid-round 6th. So, it's not nothing, but it's not a panic.

I love Snead, but I don't think he's had a good track record with OL.he produced two seperate Super Bowl OL both of which
There have been a lot of misses for sure but they produced two separate Super Bowl Olines - both of which were rated one of the best in the league those years. Considering the lack of investment in terms of 1st and 2nd round picks you might argue it’s been pretty amazing what we have been able to produce. There was only one high price FA on that run and even then they signed a possible hall of famer
