Rams picking up Emmanuel Forbes on waivers

The more I'm reading about Forbes the more he seems to be a better scheme fit for the Rams. Weak in man coverage but much better playing off in zone schemes and breaking on the ball. With our pass rush we could have another ball hawk back there to go with Kinchens.

I agree but I think this is also about next season and 2026 because there is cap-risk here.

By picking-up Forbes off waivers, the Rams saved Washington future cap space because the Rams also pick-up Forbes' fully guaranteed contract. The Rams are now on-the-hook.

Forbes 2024 cap hit to the Rams is nothing (couple hundred thousand) because it's just his remaining salary for the final five games. However, the cap sites have Forbes' cap hits for the next two seasons at $2.15M and $2.85M (salary and roster bonuses). Should Forbes bust, and the Rams don't play him or release him, those cap hits stay with the Rams.

Overall, I am still good with the addition because Emmanuel Forbes was the 2nd cornerback drafted less than two years ago. Although how Washington selected him over Christian Gonzalez is a mystery to me and his struggles in Washington are a concern, I am hopeful that the Rams have added a good young player at a position of need.

A first round talent on a rookie deal.
I expect to see him sooner instead of later, but, we shall see.
If he can work out and the Rams use that 1 next draft on a CB and the secondary issues may be largely resolved.

That cap hit for a guy grading out with first round talent is a zero risk to me.

Wanted to come back to our convo from yesterday. Not only is he 6'1 but I read an article from August that said he's gained 17 pounds. So he's closer to 183 now which is a lot more palatable.

That's actually pretty in line with what his initial scouting report said. His nfl.com scouting report says that he has elite instincts and ball skills but was going to struggle during the first couple of years getting his technique together and adjusting to the play strength of the nfl.

BUT, he can cover, and has a LONG reach to knock the ball down, and is fast enough to keep up with any wide receiver. I'm excited to see what he can do here in a year or so with some good coaching.

Agreed. He fits perfectly what the Rams want from their secondary. They want ball hawks who can cover ground. He's definitely both of those things.

I hope he works out. Our track record in working with former 1st rounders isn't too shabby either. I just have to believe our coaching staff is better than Washington and can get this young man's confidence back up again. Don't know how many times we've heard players say McVay made football fun again and reignited their playing passion. Like the kids height and length but he definitely needs to be put on a good strength program to get his weight up more. Feel much better if he weighed at least 190 lol

But, during his time in the NFL, has he truly graded out as a first round talent?

Regardless, I'd be surprised to even see him on the field this season.

Oh.. that would be much better.
Praying that it's a situation where coaching and scenery change makes all the difference. Could make a big difference this season.. and in the offseason. If he's good it will make it much more palatable for Sean to draft a WR lol.

His initial NFL scouting report predicted that he'd be a plus defender "within the first two years" so there's still time. It also predicted that he'd have some ugly bumps in the road along the way so that also tracks lol

Yeah I really hope Sean wants to upgrade running back and receiver. Wouldn't mind upgrading one in free agency and the other in the draft.
