Cooper Looking to Grow as a Receiver

Myles Simmons

Rams Insider

Pharoh Cooper entered the league in 2016 as a fourth-round pick. Back then, he looked like he had a chance to significantly upgrade the Rams’ wide receiving corps, as the club’s top two wideouts combined for just 1,154 yards receiving and eight touchdowns the year before.

Cooper suffered a preseason shoulder injury, which undeniably set him back a bit to contribute in his rookie season.

But in his second year, Cooper. Became an All-Pro returner on both kick and punt returns — earring a trip to the Pro Bowl for his performance. He led the league with 27.4 yards per kick return, and finished second with 12.5 yards per punt return.

But even as Los Angeles boasts one of the better young receiving groups in the league — led by Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and Brandin Cooks — Cooper is looking to make an impact as a receiver.

“Absolutely, I’ve never lost focus of that,” Cooper said during the offseason program. “This is my role right now, I’m a punt returner and kickoff returner, but I’ll never let the punt return or kick return take over the fact that I’m also a receiver.”

In 2017, Cooper made 11 receptions for 84 yards on 19 targets. He also took an end around for six yards, showing some versatility out of the receiver spot. In all, Cooper’s made 25 receptions for 190 yards in his first two seasons as a pro.

And so even as Cooper’s focus heading into 2018 is mainly to be the best returner he can be, he’s been investing in himself as an offensive player, too.

“I got drafted to play receiver, so I hope to play for a long career,” Cooper said. “And at a point in time in my career, I plan on being a starting receiver.”

Okay, I'll bite, why does he need an editor? Is it that he doesn't punctuate right, he's too vanilla in his writing, he doesn't dig deeper into the story, or he's too nasally in his tone of writing?

Yeah it was basic punctuation. I suppose I'm that guy who expects online media to be properly punctuated, along with the other basics of the language. Crazy, I know. Isn't the first time with his stories, but anyway not like it matters since nobody tends to care about that stuff lol.

Texting. Message boards. I can handle messed up punctuation. But, it totally irks me when it's an email or professional writer. So, I'm with you Merlin. Step it up Mr. Simmons!

I think he needs a bigger photograph of himself to begin his articles with.

Crop it close up so it's nothing but his eyes, nose and mouth.

You see this sort of thing all of the time in print and internet media. Spell Check is not proofreading.

Yes you do. And your point re: spell check not being proofreading? Don't follow you there.

As an aspiring authoress, I can't help but cringe at Myles' article.

Can we give the dude a break? I think he's doing a pretty good job in his position. How many posters want to be criticized for punctuation???
Posters don't get paid to publish. It is literally his job or his editors job to get this stuff correct. Doesn't seem like such a tough task to me either.....just sayin.

It’s not secret I’m not a fan of the guy, I think it’s moreso to do with his presentation skills and overall tone. He’s very nasally and dorky tbh. I wish we would replace him, not trying to be mean or anything just sayn!

If I type "Eye think I'm write on this point", spell check sees nothing wrong. A proofreader would pull out the red pen and make corrections.

Spell Check is not proofreading.

In 1990 or so I was using Ami Pro as a word processor, and it had an okay grammar checker. Not perfect, but useful. I would have thought with 28 years of improvements it would be universal to alert writers of possible problems. Sadly, it ended up losing the software battle and fading away.

Internet writing is less formal than print writing. I'm not excusing Miles for poor proofreading. I'm not sure what the liked about Miles to give him the job. He doesn't bother me. He doesn't act all knowing and gives genuine opinions. He questions things like some average fans would and is great with Farr.
