With Free Agency opening Monday, thought it might be a good time to see what everyone is hoping for or predicting that the Rams do this free agency period. We largely errored with last years class:

The Good:
QB Jimmy G - Served as our best back up in years. Only a 1 year deal, now a FA.
S Kam Curl - Pretty solid and still young. Still, likely had his worst season.

The BAD:
CB T.White (8.5m/1yr) - traded to Baltimore for peanuts
CB D.Williams CB (6m/2yr) - Had a pretty average year, not what we had hoped. Played in 12 games, 1 int, 7 PD
G Jonah Jackson - Disaster signing mostly due to injuries. Traded for a 6th round pick.
TE Parkinson - If you are not a Rams fan, you don't even know he was on our team. Had a career year.. with 30 receptions.

My Wishlist:
1. Chris Godwin - WR - Would immediately improve our WR room and give us a top 5 duo in the NFL. Coming off an injury and will not be cheap however (22m/yr)
2. Byron Murphy - CB - only 27 and had a really nice year, sadly likely getting a contract north of 20m/yr.
3. Elijah Moore - WR - Still only 24 and has yet to have a good QB. Showed a lot of promise and had a solid year. Could be steal(4.5m/yr)
4. Asante Samuel Jr - CB - I've been a big fan since his college days. Only 25. Expected to get around 11m/yr
5. DJ Reed - CB - Only 28 and had a good season. (14m/yr)
6. Dre Greenlaw - MLB - Will be hard to wash the stink off him, but, he is not expected to get a huge contract and very productive (6.7m/yr)

Others: WR Slayton, QB Z.Wilson, WR J.Palmer, OT D. Moore Jr (swing), DT Gaines, DT Sebass Joseph Day, MLB Willie Gay

This @OldSchool mentioned this but after Tutu, we don't have much money to spend when factoring in the draft class. Maybe one decent FA signing?

Then maybe one or two vet min hole fillers after the draft?

Last I read we were top 10 in cap space.

Wishlist:

One of davante Adams or Darius Slayton

Jamien Sherwood

Bring back some of the depth guys like Hoecht and Witherspoon

Fill in from the draft from there.

OTC and Spotrac still have them 9th but you have to consider those two cap sites do not yet reflect the Stafford restructure, or the signings of Alaric Jackson and Atwell.

Depending how deals are structured, the Rams are probably in the 20s now.

If the Rams had landed their top FA last year we’d all likely be celebrating a Super Bowl victory. Reports were that they thought they had Mike Evans locked up. Van Ginkel would have been a nice pick up also.

I think their initial plan was solid. They’re reactionary plan was lacking

We signed Tutu Jackson and gave Stafford .ore money. Those likely too the majority of our 55 million.
They also will get back 7.5M for Kupp when he is likley released.

I’d like to see one specific signing, but I doubt it happens. This defense needs players with high football IQs in the backfield. There are two FA players that could have an Eric Weddle like impact on the backend - Safety Justin Reid and safety Travon Moehrig.

Aside from one of them I don’t see a lot of impact from this free agent class that will legitimately solve any of the Rams problems.

Yeah the structure of the deal is going to be important. Most people get more cap space by restructuring deals so we might not have lost much cap space at all except for tutus contract.

The draft class isn't that expensive when you consider all the day 3 picks will be a wash with the guys currently on the roster. Some might not even crack the top 51.

Likley only need an extra 2.5M for the draft class, mostly for the 1st rd picks cap number. Remember you subtract the cap number of the guy they are replacing on the roster from their cap number. They all ready have more than 53 guys signed... so your 4th pick rd may have a cap number of 1M, well he only adds 100K to the cap because he replaces a guy with a 900K cap number. So with no 2nd round pick and a late 1st, they will not need much cap room to sign their rookies.

I don't get this desire for Darius Slayton. I'd rather sign or draft impact players.
We only have so many draft picks. Not sure we can count on a 5th or 6th round pick starting next year.

Stafford's deal can actually be reworked so the cap hit is less this year and not more, as it's been explained to me anyway.

One of the league leaders in ypc. And unless you're going receiver round one then it's not a sure thing the guy you get at pick 90 is better than him.

It's likely that we lost a good chunk of cap space on both Stafford's and Alaric's contracts.

For Stafford, reports are that they didn't add any years or void years to the contract which means it still runs through 2026 and therefore any additional salary and/or bonus money will add to 2025 for sure, possibly 2026 too. IOW, there's no way 2025's cap number can decrease if they didn't add any years to the contract.

For Alaric, he was paid $4m in 2024 and not on the books for the 2025 year so his is not a restructure. Since nothing was on the 2025 books, whatever is on there now will directly decrease cap space by that amount.

Tutu's deal is $10m in 2025 but maybe they added some void years to that. We have to wait and see on that. If they didn't it will hit the cap as $10m this year.

so we only had 10 mil to spend in free agency? lol if that is the case we were never signing anyone anyway.
