The Rams d has given up the 3rd most receptions to wrs and 4th most yards.

And some people, or maybe just one person, wonders why most people were frustrated with Morris throughout the season.

It's just frustrating seeing all those completions made. It seems so unnecessary with the talent on this defense.

We wanted to see what we saw in the wild card game.

No doubt. But for me as I keep saying Morris just learned a new defense on the job. And he did do enough for us to win 12 games. And the defense seemed to improve as he got more and more comfortable calling it. Prior to that 9er game they had strung together some great games.

I think it's entirely possible that Morris is in the zone now with a fresh reminder in his head about letting up on his calls courtesy of the fortyshitters.

I listened to another podcast today and agreed with the hosts that speculated that Kingsbury just doesn't make adjustments in midseason. The league gets about 7-8 games of film on his teams and figures out how to slow them down but they keep doing the same thing.

And it's a recent thing that Odell has emerged enough to where he's that level of threat.

They got Akers back and he's pissed and he's fast as fuck still. WHAT??? HOW. Maybe even Jones for this weekend. Holy shit.

It just feels to me like McVay's previous teams would have something missing in the big games. They always felt a bit undergunned. But this year's team oh no man. This team is loaded and it's only weakness is in the secondary and those weaknesses are countered by the strength of our DL.

I'll say this re: the Bucs... I think our DL wins the LOS. I think we stuff their run game and harass Brady and make things hard for him. But I'm not sure our OL can win the LOS. That's the game IMO. That's what will determine things. But the more I look at this team the more I see a ton of great signs of things aligning for them.

I've been spending time at azsportsfans.com on a goodwill tour. It seems that they hate us as much as Niner fans now. We have elevated ourselves after Monday Night. I found the missing DVontel over there, licking his wounds. Even he thinks Murray is a fraud. I think I saw more positivity with Lions fans and their team than the Cards fans and their 11 win squad.

All due respect but he hasn't been playing Staley's scheme. Staley would give the QB one look then shift into another at the snap. Staley played a zone with man concepts. Neither of those things are what Morris played for the bulk of the season. He played a very soft passive zone. He would switch up and play man but it was clear before the snap he was in man coverage, he didn't play zone with man concepts. Staley played aggressively, defending all passing levels. Morris routinely left the short zone uncontested. That is why Kyler had a field day in their first win. Simply plotting Kyler's passes shows how the vast majority of his passes were within 10 yds. Morris ignored that in the first game or he didn't do his homework.

Morris played the same soft zone he used with the Falcons and which probably led to his being switched to being a WR coach. It's only towards the end of the season that he has begun to play his secondary aggressively. His scheme dropped this #1 ranked defense to around the 16th ranked unit, being ranked in the top 5 in some of the negative pass defense rankings in the process.

Has he begun to change? He still loves his soft zone which allowed the Niners to go down and tie up the game in less than 40 seconds. But the replay of the pick 6 against Murray shows how he changed in playing the Cards in both the wins. His secondary was covering Kyler's first two short reads which allowed Reeder time to get to him. Morris was in man coverage on that play which in itself is a change from earlier in the season.

Staley installed Cover 4 and ran it with his own twist for personnel. But it wasn't like he called only that. Rams simply ran Cover 4 and 6 most, and were one of the most frequent teams in that scheme in 2020. Staley also had added wrinkles which was part of his buzz along with how good the defense was statistically.

When I say Morris was learning that is because McVay hired him to run the defense he wanted, which included the use of match quarters that had stymied him so often. Now I don't count our formations but we run a heavy two deep safety scheme and he disguises and moves shit around post-snap. I'm sure there's plenty of cover 4 calls in there. Plenty of cover 4 with match and plenty as drop and it's the drop call that everyone bitches about. In that call you have 4 DBs deep, so the field is quartered, and the outside corners are back too far for say a third and short situation.

So it's accurate to say he learned that scheme while on the job. I think that's how shit went down and I figure he improved as the year went on with his gameplanning and calls.

I like reading that board occasionally. It is generally level headed, but they took the loss hard.

I like to help those guys laugh and encourage them to stay the course. You don't want to be too hasty in getting rid of the Midget. You also don't want to to dump a HC that seems to make few mid-season adjustments when they're figured out after week 8.

Unless they can get Wisenhunt and Rosen back.....

I think on the first sack we got on him with AD and Gains, that all he had to do was step to the right and run up the middle. Instead he went down like those goats that when you scare them they stiffen and fall over. The Rams were in his head from the jump. He played scared all game.

I think Murray has to be more scripted by a HC/OC that knows how to male mid-season adjustments. Kingsberry is good for about the first 8 games in a season and is for shyte after that. Murray is athletically talented, but is a little guy in a big man's league. Hell/ I'd be scared seeing 320 lb monsters coming after me, too....

When they drafted him and signed Kingsberry I said it was a mistake. He is the smallest QB in the league ever and Kingsberry's record was a losing one. Other than working for McVay he had nothing going for him.
The second half of the season is a thing tho. We have seen it with McVay and he struggled with it at first. Kingsberry, true to form hasn't. LOL
