I am saying if they draft an edge at 26... if that position is by far the BPA... then maybe you sign a vet as insurance for the rookie. And you trade Young since it may not make much sense having another first rd edge plus Young. Now of you don't get offered much, you keep him. However if you can get a top 100 to 125 pick, then it might make sense.
Why?

Young played great early last season when the rest of the defense wasn’t playing that well. Trading a cheap and valuable player, who both rushes the passer and plays the run well, just to get a pick so they can gamble on some college player is poor planning. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Besides, they lost Hoecht to free agency. If they draft an edge early he can either take BYs spot and BY takes Hoecht’s or the new guy takes Hoecht’s spot.

If McVay had TEs worth a shit he would play 12 sets.

So if he were to get Warren that would happen. Higs & Warren would be a legit duo.
f ya to 12 sets, been banging the table for this for a few years now! impose our will onto our opponents

Again, not saying they should draft an edge...but if they did in round 1, the reason to trade Young would be to get an extra pick to draft a position where you need more help...like RT...or a ILB, etc...

If they draft an edge he replaces Hoecht.

Young is pretty good. But as you said he's not a superstar and that's also ok. I'd still try to sign him to a modest deal when the time comes. You can't have superstars at every position. It's just not possible
Very average players still get paid a lot on their 2nd contracts, not just the stars.

Young is a guy I'd replace when his contract is up but no need to do that two years early. He's very good value while on a rookie contract.

Would be nice to see him behind 9. But I'd say telling everyone that McVay is interested in him does not help the Rams if they really want him.

It’s interesting that McVay just said he hadn’t spent any time looking at QBs in this draft. Misdirection? Or is it that others are handling that position and he’s paying attention to other spots?

I don't believe anything McVay says as it pertains to players and strategies related to them. He's just too good at not giving up information.

The better approach I think is to completely ignore what he says and look at the Rams QB situation. Old QB with hard miles, his play fell off statistically after an epic title run for the ages (had to do with OL as well but still), and he has been upset with his contract for the past two offseasons.

I could also add that McVay is the type of personality who is never satisfied. He is always pushing to improve everything, which can create fatigue with his outlook on players (once he loses faith in them it's done), as well as their ability to endure his BS. Dude is brilliant but taxing I am sure.

So would he be interested in a young signal caller who has the basic tools and handles pressure well? Of course. Yes. Question is whether he vibed with him in the whiteboard session though. I think the working relationship is key in how he'll make that selection.

When pressured last year, Dart completed 41 of 89 passes (46.1%) for 908 yards, four scores and three interceptions with 56 rushes and a 23.9% sack rate.

Look, people can like Dart, they can even like his escapability but he absolutely does not handle pressure well.

Totally agree. But of course that leaves us with no clue. Which honestly makes this draft one of the most “must see” drafts in a long while.

I’ve seen this stuff too. It may not give us the warm and fuzzies. But somehow, he seems to fit.

Hes awful under pressure. Hes the anti-Stafford. McVay would be pulling his hair out with Dart

Jake Ellenbogen agrees with you. Good take by Jake here plus go to the 6:40 mark and Jake extrapolates on who he does not want the Rams to take at 26. Hint: It rhymes with Don't Go Breaking my heart.
