It was like that last year, early on there were 3 QBs going in the first round and by the time the draft rolled around there were 6 first round QBs.
At the same time, about this time of year guys like Will Levis and Malik Willis were considered 1st round options by some.

Too true! People sit here as fans and put their own grades on a player not remembering it's only how the team feels about them not us. And the only thing worse than not having a QB is having a QB who won't take you anywhere and having to pay him because there are no other options than to pay him.
What I don't understand with the mocks is why Dart is ahead of Shough. I like Dart more for upside, think he's a really ideal option to sit behind 9. But some of these teams need a QB playing now so Shough would be the better choice. He's got a lot of seasoning.

Everybody makes mistakes and every year people are drafted higher or lower than commonly thought and some outperform their draft status and some don't.

Injury history and age. He'll turn 26 during the season. Miss and that's probably a guaranteed firing for that GM with probably no future prospects of attaining that title ever again.

Injuries and age are a huge issue to some.

Mocks around this time aren't being informed by info coming out by teams so people have incentive to switch things up to bring us all back to their sites, I think that's why you're seeing some people throw Dart near the top.

In about three weeks some stuff will trickle out about teams and then the mocks - at least ones like say, Warren Sharp - will update with that info.

Only thing really coming out right now is about how set the top 4 are: Ward, Adbul, Sanders, Hunter. With the Browns and Giants not making viable moves at QB in FA, sounds like many expect them to go after a QB and word with teams is Tenn is taking Ward.

Question is if there will be a big trade up as there was some talk about Tenn still wanting to trade out. Even then, top 4 seems like it will remain some combo of those guys.

Yeah I get that folks have their priorities on these guys. But his age doesn't worry me given that he played a ton and seems very mature and ready to run a huddle in the NFL. Also the injuries being a collar bone x2 that might not have healed all the way, and a leg bone, I mean the fact he didn't suffer a joint injury is a good thing.

Contrast that to the Indiana kid, who I love btw except for his knee injuries. Which to me are more of a negative as the injuries go. I wouldn't draft him because of those knee injuries but if Shough is sitting there at 26 I have to wonder if McVay is considering pulling the trigger.

Shough played in 42 games in his 7 (yes 7) years.
Dart played in 45 games in 4 years.
I don’t necessarily think there’s an experience edge either way

I do. Those games he played in were spread across 5 OCs. The dude has been through a Van Wilder football version of a collegiate career. In his interviews he is mature, intelligent, and has a good grounding due to that extra time spent at that level.

And you know I prefer Dart. But I think there's a good chance teams hold Shough in higher esteem than they're letting on. I think he is more ready to play due to all that and if I'm a team that needs a young QB who can play year one he's on that list.

Me either I wouldn't have a problem with the Rams drafting the kid. He's mobile and has a cannon.

Yeah, Payton took a lot of crap for drafting Nix so early. I guess he got the last laugh

For now absolutely. I didn't want him for the Rams didn't think he was what we needed or wanted at QB but he's the perfect QB for asshole face.

I don’t think any team will draft him over Dart.
I like Shough a whole lot, brought him up a while ago. But the reality is that he likely wasn’t a draftable player until this season. He had some injury issues but also hadn’t been all that good

On a side note, it’s kid of crazy to think that he’s the same age as Trevor Lawrence & 2 years older than CJ Stroud

Btw I am fine with McCord too. If McVay has a bro love moment with him in whiteboard session and wants him that is good enough for me. Plus the more I have gone back and watched McCord the more I like him.

It will be very funny if this class outperforms expectations. Also it is very funny when teams who have a great need at the position turn their nose up on options and watch them go on to strong careers. Marino went 27th overall, Kelly 14th, Rodgers 24th, Brady 6th round. It's easy to overnuke these guys or judge them too harshly on one thing or another and end up missing out on a dude who can play.

If McVay really likes him as I was told, then I fucking love him.

The Jets also do too, and thats where it gets wild.. who's going to "reach" for him? I'm not putting it past the Rams to take him R1 or 2

I didn’t want him for the Rams but I did argue that he was worthy of where he went in the draft. I agree, however that Nix would maybe have a slower progression with a lot of other coaches. But he’s a pretty good QB.

I agree with your last couple of sentences, but both Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes were considered 1st round prospects about this time. Just not high 1st round prospects.

I read multiple draft profiles on both Jackson and Maho.es and they all used a variance of saying they "have a chance to be first round picks". Didn't say they were top 10 late first or whatever. Most of the profiles said they could be firsts.
