I always felt that this was because goff wasn't the type of guy to put the extra work in and that perturbs coaches. That's just speculation on my part though

See my post about following bad games with good ones. This could be one of the reasons for that. And look, not that Goff didn't put in the work but to be truly special, you have to grind as a QB. So much extra work.

Yeah that was a nice run. The OL surge there was excellent too. IMO we are sitting on a very good run game this year, we just haven't fully shown it.

The third quarter drive vs the Giants sure showed it though. They have a very good front. This run game is real dudes, only concern is can our RBs survive the grind.

I was super excited when they got rid of Blythe

Can we turn this into a Bash Blythe thread?
Is that a crack at me saying I was super excited about the trade for Stafford? If so, do you not think we made a significant upgrade at QB? If not, my apologies for the misread.

Naw - I was just having fun at the expense of Blythe

I have been all in on the Stafford trade since early last summer after watching tape of Stafford

I should have probably added "also" to the phrase

Not gonna say much about this game.

Yes, I'm glad we have Stafford. But man, I do feel bad for Jared being on a team as bad as the Lions. Their WR corps is as bad as any the Rams had in The Great Suck period of 2005-2016. And now he has lost his excellent C for the year and the OL he's playing behind is regressing. Just suck all around.

This. Goff would always follow up a game where he laid an egg with a good game. That to me points to no being consistent in preparation week in and week out. I too think he's gonna give us his best game but that was part of the problem with him. He'd have a bad game, get every so mildly called out by McVay and then he'd follow it up with a good game. Rinse, repeat.
Compare that to Stafford, who is apparently an absolute film rat. That's the stuff that keeps you elite. Not just talent (which Goff never lacked)

Yeah I heard Wolford was always staying later. Goff was probably in a hurry to get home to his girlfriend.

I am starting to believe that you guys are right that Goff just doesn't put in enough work to be a top tier QB.

He is good enough talent wise but he won't be a truly top tier QB until he starts putting in the hours.

Plus he needs to work on his foot work and throwing motion again.

He needs to get back to his college days for his throwing form.

And i Feel like Rodrigue already addressed this in a roundabout way. she talked about how sean expected Jared to continue to grow and take the reins of the offense but it never came to fruition and that's where the frustration began. That sounds to me like a guy who was flourishing when a new look scheme was taking the world by storm, but once his own dedication to uplifting everything around him (and not just being a part of the many ingredients) became necessary he never really committed to that.

What does Staffords 2 interceptions have to do with anything.
Maybe you should pay attention to the conversation? Stafford is not without blame in his playoff losses. 2 INT in a 4th Q when trailing by 10 isnt a good look.
But as I've said all along, I'm glad he got the poor post season play out of his system because he is going to kick major ass this upcoming post season

That's just nonsense.
Stafford is a major upgrade from Goff, and had Stafford been under center since McVay's 1st season I have no doubt we'd have at least 1 ring already. That said, these character assassination jobs on Goff are pathetic. Wolford is a journeyman JAG who is fortunate enough to be on an NFL roster. Any puff pieces about his "work ethic" is merely fodder to justify his existence on the team. As it is, in his start against the Cards he did more than enough to lose that game, however the defense bailed him out of it

I don't generally feel bad for famous athletes that have made > $100,000,000. I probably deal with worse at work than Jared does and I don't make anywhere near that. LOL

2020 lol. When we had Blythe, Evans and Whitworth out, along with Higbee injured. Apples and Oranges.

Stafford is coming off 5 straight years of less than 30 TD's. It's a team game. It doesn't make him a scrub.

We were the highest scoring offense for two years straight - we are not anywhere near that right now even against terrible secondaries thus far. I think Stafford can get better and will. But no, we are not there yet.

Of course it's a team game. And now that Stafford is on a better team, he's having by far his best season ever, and on pace for better than anything Goff ever did. Keep in mind while you're throwing out those 2017/2018 comparisons that it cuts both ways: that OL was better than this one with a younger Whitworth and Saffold AND OPOY Todd Gurley.

Never said Wolford was even a decent back-up. Just saying Goff didn't put in as much work as Wolford which I think a QB needs to do to be a top tier QB.

I loved Goff but his decision making abilities on some plays and the stories I hear about Goff make me wonder - does Goff want to be a top tier QB.
