Imagine you have a close friend and he's congratulating you on your wedding anniversary. He wants to get you both a gift as you walk through Nordstroms (pre-Covid). You walk through the women's evening wear and he picks a very sheer negligee.
"She'll look good in this, " he says.... You would...

What is the most inappropriate gift you have ever given/recieved?

A bottle of olive oil and a plastic drop cloth, to my boss at the office party for him and the HR babe.
Everyone knew they were banging but I was stupid enough to give the gift.

Mine wasn't necessarily a poor gift.
I did however give a not-so-glowing speech at a friends wedding.
It wasn't mean or horrible, but it wasn't entirely supportive either.

First off, if he was trying to shop at Nordstrom's, we wouldn't be friends (even in the before times).
Second, is assume he's joking and as such I would find a more inappropriate joke to make back. Something like "I don't know. It wasn't very flattering on your wife last week."
Third, if he clearly wasn't joking I would take it as a compliment, get through that shopping trip, never shop with him again, and then deeply contemplate why I went out shopping with a dude in the first place.
