Per Tony Pauline the Rams number one draft target was Byron Murphy

I think some posters nailed it. Rams would have taken better player if available.

Now I think the real news is that they would have possibly traded up for him. I was def a Murphy fan but really hoping our tandem works out without all the need for trading... oh

I very seriously doubt this story.

IMO these 4-6 Rumors of moving up or interested in a certain player were originated with our FO and a particular story was leaked to a specific media personality which in turn released it.

It’s like the CIA releasing so much BS you don’t know what’s true and it clouds the truth and intended intentions so no one can get an exact gauge which is smart.

This has been obvious for many years with the FO.

There were, and always are, and Snead did interview today that has good info ... more that one plan.

So it's not a big deal that Rams might have been looking for one of maybe 2-3-4 players ... if Verse had been gone, maybe they take Murphy--if there. Or they trade up to get one of 2-3-4 players they had their eye on.

So Jones-Drew may have had inside info but *partial* info. Some of it part of the plan but not the whole plan

I suspect Murphy has a good chance to bust. So if they did like him maybe they dodged a bullet.

Hard to blame them of course. Huge need and he is talented.

Good points. Rams are looking for grinders, per AD, players who care about football. Murphy may fit the body type, and allow the Rams to keep their overall D scheme, but... is there really another AD out there?? if not, I like this new DL with Turner, Fiske, Young, Verse, BBIII in the middle, there's a ton of potential there to be a great line & not have to have an "AD clone" to make it work.
I'm just not sure now though who plugs in at 1T.... BBIII? Hoecht? Fiske & Turner are 3T's. Thoughts?

Please add AD to the Rams talent acquisition team asap. Have him become part of DL prospect workouts. I believe he can spy difference makers from difference fakers a mile away.

And other guys are still insisting we wanted to move into top 10 for Bowers.

Verse was the right pick. Especially getting Fiske and Tyler Davis later. Like those three additions a lot.
I think those three and Brennan Jackson will all play roles this year alongside Byron Young, Kobie Turner and even Bobby Brown and Desjuan Johnson.

I think Anthony Goodlow (college free agent) may stick as well. I wouldn't feel comfortable if I were Larrell Murchison.

I seriously doubt they had Murphy over Verse. The run on offensive players meant a player they likely had ranked higher than Murphy was going to fall in their lap.

Hard to say ? You’re probably right though. The Rams actually might have had Fiske rated higher than Murphy ?

I say that only because of how Les Snead talks about his mind set about moving up or moving back.
He just said of The 3 options of moving up,moving back,or staying put he said The Least Likely was where & what they did of staying PUT(in place).

The pressure on Murphy would have been to replace AD despite it being impossible - because he has a similar game and physique and because he was a 1st round pick - that would be unfair but almost inevitable

It seems much more likely that they had Verse ahead of Murphy but one scenario was Verse had gone - draft Murphy - then pick an Edge in round 2 or 3

Great point. Rams likely scripted 8 scenarios for Round 1. Then depending on the progression ended up with their best remaining scenario going Verse R1 and targeting any remaining blue chips in R2. Fiske likely being given a blue chip value of early R2. Then the search for a trade partner began shortly after their R1 pick.

When you're picking in the second half of the round there's always someone you'd like that won't make it to your pick. Whether or not you wanted to trade up for him is anyone's guess. Whatever the case, the Rams picked a talented player at a position of need. Then they got another talented player at another position of need. Things worked out just fine.

According to the athletic article the Rams were zeroed in on three players in round one. Verse was one of them. It seems the other two were Bowers and Murphy.

All players that I would expect them to like from the 10-19 range.

Snead talked PODS of players that they liked. So Bowers-Murphy-Verse looks like their first-round POD. He probably had a couple more players.

The Rams are getting so sophisticated in their draft process that they had PODs for the PODs on multiple rounds. I hope that makes sense.

Verse/Fiske/Corrum/Kichens.

I bet those first four picks where were a high-conviction combined POD before the draft. I think they nailed it with the players and needs!

It's so comical that I had to give a HaHa.

The only people that knew for sure were inside the draft room. My post above had the Rams picking the players they wanted. There are always variations as the draft progresses.

I’d guess that Verse, Murphy, Bowers were pod 1. Fiske was pod 2. Maybe Corum was a player in pod 3. Kinchens was in pod 4.

I base this on Snead’s interviews and reporters. Pod 1 seems clear. POD 2 likely was late round 1 or early round 2. Snead was going to trade back if Verse hadn’t dropped to them. So that takes Fiske out of Pod 1, but he was still considered a first round talent.

Snead said they were going to try to trade back in round 3, until they saw that Corum was still there. They didn’t think he would be. So he was likely in a Pod with a late round 2 grade. We won’t ever know who the other players in those pods were.

I believe the pods per Jourdan's article were simply in reference to defensive line pairings to replace AD in the aggregate not pairings per round nor diverse positions?
