What do y'all make of this? I gotta tell ya, I think it's horse shit. Who gives a damn what a woman said 27 years ago. I don't care if she said it 27 minutes ago. She isn't famous for her viewpoints on anything but butter. No other profession would fire it's employees over something they said 27 years ago. I hope she bounces back.

This is gonna turn political in a heartbeat, I think...

But, to answer your question. I could give a shit what she said. EVERYBODY says some stupid shit from time to time, and EVERYBODY has said some stupid racist shit at one time or another (or at least thought it). However. Since the world as we know it is highly litigious and overly sensitive, there was no other course of action for the people who pay her bills. It's all about risk assessment and mitigation. Fair or not, that's just how the world works now. IMO of course.

This is what pisses me off the most.

Get a life, people!

The folks lobbying to change the name Redskins is another example of utter silliness. Does ANYONE actually think of anything remotely racial when saying the words; Washington Redskins? If you do, you're a fucking nut.

Hmm well lets see if the news had not made a bigger deal of this then the irs scandal or bengazi then this wouldnt be an issue.

Yep.

Edit: OK - I just read the transcripts. I can't BELIEVE she would tell Redneck jokes. That crosses the line. Tell jokes about all those other minorities but Rednecks? That is an offensive term and I demand legal action to go after anyone who uses that term or the term Cracker. When will it all end?

I doubt anyone on here condones racism. But this is just silly. We don't have bigger problems than the musings of some old southern broad?

The most offensive thing about Paula Deen is what she puts into the food she cooks.
What do you have against 9 sticks of butter?

Commie. :neh:

I guess the President is a homophobe for his previous stand against gay marriage

I suppose I missed where he made a stand.

When he was first running he basically said keep the system how it was, mostly because he didn't want to piss off a lot of voters in a tight race. He never really believed it though and it didn't take him long to come out and say he was in favor of gay marriage and we should change the system though. It was just speak to get elected.

I haven't been following this story at all. So, I don't really know any details about what the media is saying. But I can say I've never ever liked that "woman". She always appeared to me as a phoney who is mean spirited at heart. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's what my gut says.

I think back to when I was a high school student and I called things "gay" or someone a "Seahawks" as a derogatory term. If someone asked me if I used a slur in that matter, I would have to admit yes. I haven't really used it since college, and it doesn't make me a homophobe though.

Which I'd say is doubly offensive since gain for his insensitivity was involved.
Face it if Deen was black or lesbian ,the uproar would be short lived and inconsequential.
But she's an old white woman with some money so she's a target for the professionally offended and not inoculated by her demographics.

Exactly , words aren't racist , people are and if you are in doubt if someone is ,ask them, if they say they aren't take them at their word and live and let live.

There are plenty of real racists who campaign upon their bigotry to attack without creating resentment over hyper sensitive projection.
