This makes me feel smarter than I am.

Speights is strong enough to stand backs up.. so I don't think he needs to add more weight.

He's ended up where I thought he would.. in preseason, he just looked like the real deal. I remember people saying he was this year's Dakota Allen.. but I didn't see that, I saw a guy with more speed who is REALLY strong for his size.

He's only going to get better.

I absolutely WAS worried and a little baffled when it took so long for him to see the field.. but have loved what I've seen and makes me feel just fine about the Jones trade.

Agreed. Not sure what the coaches saw because Reeder was at best a back up in the 2021 season.

I have been banging the table for Speights to get playing time since early in the season. I remember watching him play in the SEC at Florida and the dude was a stud. Reeder is a try hard guy but in my opinion is just not good enough to be a starter in the NFL.

His stopping power for his size is impressive. That's one thing that I think stands out for him. Still a ways to go but it's nice to have an ILB who is young with some room to grow. :thumbsup1:
This. He is in on tons of our 4th down stops. He looks great for a UDFA and instantly transformed our LB room. Great find by the scouting staff. He should only improve with experience but already is starting caliber. Not everyone can be a star in a salary cap world.

He's great at defending the Run. However, he scares me in Zone pass coverage. There have been many plays this season where he looks like a Deer in headlights ; very slow recognition of what is happening around him

I certainly hope you are right and will be pulling for him. I'm onside for whatever is best for the Rams, and I certainly like him infinitely more than Reeder.
Don’t think Reeder hasn’t been a part of his growth ? At least early on when he was healthy.Jaa as cob Hummel did a nice job of play calling. IMO there’s no way Speights is a Pound Lighter ?
Alaric Jackson was listed at 280 lbs on the Rams site for years.

We all do realize that Reeder has been on IL and has been there for a majority of the season don’t we?

2025 RAMS “THATS A FACT JACK”:
Speights (rookie)>>Rozeboom (4yr vet) >Reeder (6yr vet)

And I know this is not the right thing to say but THANK GAWD he went on the IL - best thing to happen to the Rams this year. I told my wife that I can't watch the Rams with her anymore because I will be swearing left and right at the mistakes Reeder does. And Rozeboom played horribly when Reeder was out there too.

I can't figure out why McVay has liked certain players so much - Blythe Evans Noteboom and Reeder.

To be fair - Noteboom has played okay at Left Tackle but he can't stay healthy at that position.

When Noteboom leaves in 2025, I wonder if someone will pay a decent price on him since he does play okay at LT and they could take a chance on him not getting hurt (good luck with that thought).

We'll see on Speights. It's hard to be the steal of a year when you aren't a star player, and thus far, he hasn't looked like that caliber of player. I'd just settle for a solid starter at ILB. Right now, Bucky Irving is looking like the steal of 2024. Beaux Limmer is also looking like quite the steal.

Longtime lurker here and rarely post, but I'm 55 and before I die, I want to meet you in person. Dinner/drinks on me. I am SO impressed with with your knowledge, contributions, and humility on this board on the daily.
Thank you.

Great! Now you fellas have turned ROD into a dating site.

:laugh1:

Speights got 2nd team all rookie according to the Athletic. Kinchins and Karty also 2nd teamers. Limmer got honarable mention at C. Verse, Fiske obvy 1st teamers.

Another very good Rams draft as it stands now.

I dunno what you all think about him, but when I watch highlights I'm starting to look for #48. The guy is just making plays. Used to be that anytime the Rams were defending a 4th & 1 it was like we'd automatically lose... now, several times this year I saw #48 knifing in to stop the RB cold. He just knows how to play ILB.
Another year of coaching & conditioning & I think we'll have a stud ILB for years to come. Thank you Troy but please enjoy your ride on the bench.
