I have zero confidence in Noteboom at guard. I hope to be proven wrong but he lacks power and anchor. He is a technician. Much harder to do that on the inside. And the technique required is also different which does not help his cause. But I will be rooting for him.

I've seen where McVay has said several times that he wants his best five out there on game day.

My question has always been does that mean the best five overall regardless of position or the best five at each individual position. There is a difference.

I'm not a fan of playing a good tackle, when healthy, out of position at guard over a decent (I think/hope) guard who took starter snaps all preseason and hoping for the best.

If Noteboom starts at RG I'd love to be proven wrong.

Yep. This feels to me like them wanting to play the guy they paid. Finding him a role is a priority for them which to some extent I get where they're coming from.

But for the record I am irritated by it and hoping this will be one of those situations where the team is finally right about the player. Because he has never looked good on the interior and I detest a lack physicality there. Only position on the OL where I can look past a lack of physicality is at LT and that is if they're exceptional in pass pro.

The moment he lost that LT battle he should have been cemented as our swing OT. That is the role where he has always been a benefit to the team. But again I would love to be wrong on this.

Avila has been rotating between OG positions since OTAs he far more prepared to make the transition.

I think everyone's been awfully respectful of what we assumed were mistakes in comprehension but if they keep happening I don't see how you can't expect us to just say you're lying.

Maybe the idea is to show the league he’s physically capable of playing.. in case someone gets desperate for LT help and the could possibly get some draft compensation.

But.. he better at least be close to as good as the other guys if he’s on the field. I’m not enthusiastic about him at guard, like you.

If his salary wasn’t as such guaranteed this would be a non issue and they wouldn’t be forcing this. Their mistake.

I suspect Big Rob tends to play through his injuries too. He's had some seasons where his ability to move has been terrible at times.

Hats off to the entire O-line for this game, but especially Noteboom. Wouldn't have believed it before the game but he proved a few of us wrong.
I know its only one game but I'm happy (and relieved) to see him contribute in any way at any position going forward.

I been saying it, but Noteboom can hold up in pass pro. It’s the run game where he lacks.

I’ll eat crow on Tutu, but I’m not so quick to with Joe. I need to watch the game again and focus on the Oline, but I saw him whiffing on initial blocks and he struggled with DTs changing directions. I don’t know if he got better as time went on but my initial impression was not good. He looked lost and confused. Maybe it’s because it was his first time playing right guard with little to no practice in camp.

I am right there with you! I never would have believed it either but Noteboom was solid! Exited to see how the team does vs. San Fran which will be a much tougher test.

I dunno. Noteboom was not overly noticeable to me today. Which is a huge improvement from his past performances at guard. And even at LT for much of last year, lest we forget the abuse he suffered on opening night at the hands of Von Miller. I was expecting a disaster.

This, along with his weaker run blocking was why I had serious doubts about the move.

I wasn't able to watch the whole game, just the highlights on YouTube, so there may have been things I missed but I'd take this kind of performance all season long, particularly the pass protection.
