The narrative was Stafford couldn't have been very good because he lead the league in picks. Which is 100% wrong.
And you're confusing "who he is" with who he had to be in Detroit. If he didn't ball out every game in Detroit, they had no chance to win. That means, make every throw, fit into every tight window, throw 50/50 balls consistently, take chances to try and score, etc. He had to do those things. He had no running game, no defense, and bad coaching. Their entire fortune relied on him making every difficult and aggressive throw.
Last year it was a process, but McVay coached some of that out of him. I mean look at how excellent he played down the stretch and into the playoffs. 11/3 td-int ratio in the postseason. In this offense and for this team, Stafford didn't have to make every single throw, win every single game on his own. He has a brilliant coach, two solid RBs, and a great defense that can win games on their own. I don't subscribe to "thats just who he is." He's too smart for that. He is aggressive by nature yes, but because he's absolutely had to be for a decade +. This year I bet he takes better care of the ball.
