I have saw a couple of threads about free agents that we need to bring back and our potential space. (51million)

But i was noticing something when looking at some of the Rams contracts. Gurley will be entering his final year of his contract and will be eligble to negotiate for the first time. With the year he is having is there any worry that he will demand another contract next season that will pay him tob rb money?

That’s not Todd’s style. He’ll play thru his rookie deal for sure. That said, he’ll be due for a big number after that. My real concern there, if I’m being honest, is I think deep down McVay would rather have another top flight receiver or tight end with that $ and then try and find another back in the draft. I hope I’m wrong because I think Gurley is unique and will have another 5 or 6 seasons at an elite level. He’s versatile as hell and is also loved in the locker room. I hope they pay him.

There are plenty of all pro players still on their rookie contracts.

Gurley should know his Success is dependent on the right offense and Oline if you look at his abysmal 2016 season.

I think him and then Goff, Kupp and those that follow would be wise to play out their rookie contracts in this system then re-up with the Rams.

Freaking out and going rogue can be a rough path to travel as Donald found out. If you want to play hardball you can but is it worth it in the end.

It's all part of the game. In order to stay on top of the NFL, you need to constantly draft well because you can't afford to pay everyone. The sea pigeons won the superbowl when Russell Wilson was getting minimum wage on his rookie contract. Now that he draws top salary, they are unable to pay perhaps fringe but important players that keep you on top.

The rams will eventually hit that wall when we have to pay Gurley and Goff in a few years. AD will get his payoff this off season unless they franchise him, but that just kicks the can down the road. The sad reality is that the Rams are not going to be able to bring everyone back from this promising season.

And I believe viewership in the NFL was down this season, possibly because of the kneeling issue started by Colin Crapernick. I wonder how that will affect next year's cap if NFL revenue is down?

Yeah I believe he’ll be extended then they will work out something while he’s still under his rookie deal.

They’ll pick up his option and add 5th year for sure

I wouldn't bank on the 5th year option, look for an extension prior to that. The option would pay him nearly (if not over) 10m for one year, making him the 2nd highest paid RB in the NFL this year behind Bell who is playing on the franchise tag this season.

Todd isn't a diva, he's going to play out his rookie contract next year. But after that he deserves to be paid as much as any other RB in the NFL. Le'Veon Bell's contract will provide an idea of what Gurley's deal will look like.

I'm good with him getting paid well but I don't see it happening next year. AD has to be the next priority the next year Todd and then Goff. Keeping the core together for a good run at the championship while plugging in role players around them is the way they should and I believe will work things out.

I believe they are way ahead of any of us and AD found out last offseason they are not going to budge off that plan. Wait your turn work with the team to build a perennial winner and everyone (the core) will get paid. Just like AO did this year.

As for not being a diva, that's what I though about AD, it is as much or more a problem with agents than the players.

The lesson in all of this will be the team will have to make choices and sacrifices. We can't extend every good player and keep raising the salaries through the roof. Look at the Seahawks. They're in cap hell and have an aging and injury prone core to their team now. Eventually a player is going to come up in one of these threads and it just won't be financially responsible to extend them. Is that Gurley? Woods? Kupp? Saffold? Brockers? Eventually we fans will be upset it always happens.

I never speak for McVay except on this ONE point: There is NO WAY that McVay underestimates Gurley's importance to this offense.

Gurley will get paid before AD if it comes to that...THAT'S how important Gurley is.

One thing is for sure.

It behooves the Rams to keep drafting well and keep finding those UDFA gems.

Because, as has already been pointed out, no team can keep everybody. Tough decisions must be ultimately made and quality players must be allowed to walk.

All the more important to hold the line on salaries of players that they want to keep such as AD, TruJo, etc.

At some point we need to put together a thread that lists all the FA and areas that need to be improved, along with Donald's situation. There are going to be a LOT of big decisions and tbh I don't know that they'll be able to take care of Todd a year early. Both he and AD might need to wait.

Snead did a great job this past offseason but maaaan this one is like a damn minefield.

The only thing I wonder is at what point does the 5th year option kick in. Is it with all first rounders or the top five? I honestly don’t know and too lazy to search.

Edit: Oh wait. The Rams have it with Donald so never mind. What a steal that ended up being.

Sounds like a great off season thread. I’d prefer not to worry about it now but figure the Rams are working on it feaverishly.

If we haven't extended AD yet what are the chances Gurley gets extended next year? 30% maybe? Demoff will carry it out to be a team friendly deal and get as much leverage as possible.
