Physically - getting there. Mentally a ways to go.

(Like that shithead dog Stu has)

Hahahahaha. He's still a pup. That's cool.

My wife isn't going to be able to wait much longer for a new pup here. Every other day she gives me a HINT now.

Some of our friends brought their new pup over to our house last weekend. That was the kicker for my wife. I must admit... that puppy breath got ahold of me too.

Happy 11th birthday to Buddy's Golden Jett!!

Lola got a good bath and grooming today..after being in the shelter for so long she really needed it. Was the only way I would let her get in my truck !!!

So we have decided to "foster" a dog for a few months. Lola was found abandoned and has been at the local animal shelter for abut 5 months now. .she has been over breeded and been in a few fights in her 3-4 years. Extremely under weight and hasn't gained a pound since arriving at the shelter. All kinds of tests all came back negative so the thought is she just isn't doing well because she is kenneled all day. We are going to bring her home Sunday and see how she does in a home environment. View attachment 18510

Somehow I missed this post.

That is awesome of you guys!

Fuck - there goes my sig!

freak - there goes my sig!
Blue font needed? The article was terrible. Both dogs I've owned like being hugged.

When I first saw the title, thought it was going to be a sanitary issue. I.e. dog goes outside when you're not home and gives you a hug when you return.

The hug thing actually has merit. If you really look into dog language / communication ... the kind of contact a hug provides is interpreted as a strong form of showing dominance in the dog's mind. Submissive dogs will certainly tolerate this kind of contact, but they aren't really enjoying it. A less submissive dog might lash if hugged.

Another thing that many people don't realize... dogs don't really enjoy being patted on the top of their heads. They tolerate that too... they don't like it though. Would you enjoy being patted on the top of the head ?

There are fantastic ways to show your dog affection that he will actually enjoy and feel comforted from... but hugs and pats on the top of the head are not.

Not usually - but if you're watching The Rams beat Seattle in St. Louis, and some crazy whackjob Husker fan sitting behind you rubs your head after a score....some things you can live with. :cautious:

As far as dogs go, hugs may be metaphorical, but belly rubs are for real. However, yawns being a sign of stress, I gotta' totally disagree with.

Hahahahaha

Ramhusker can be a lot to deal with. Especially when he gets excited.

The belly rub is definitely for real... unless it's from @Ramhusker of coarse.

so Lola is doing great now...she has gained a little more than 10 lbs since she moved in with us. Have her on Orijen grain free dog food and she looks so much better now. She is also a lot happier and energetic than she was in the shelter.

Good on ya Mike.
There's a special place in heaven (or wherever), for people like you.

Nice looking dog - got her looks from her Mom?

That's awesome Mike. Warms my heart. She's a very lucky dog.

Well sad to report that Lola has passed on. We didn't realize when we took her in she had stomach cancer.

After she gained the weight needed we took her in to get spayed and they did a blood work up on her, then told us it would only be a shot time. A week later she was gone.

She was a good dog who had a rough life. Glad she lived out her days with us

Oh, no. I'm so sorry to hear that. At least she's in a better place.

That sucks but she knew she was loved and that is cool.

So sorry to hear this. At least she had you guys at the end of that rough life. I'm sure it made a hell of a difference for her. You guys were awesome to help her like you did.
