McVay said it best imo.

“I would be all for it if we played all 15 NFC teams and then two cross-conference games, but when you're playing six divisional games, then you got the strength of schedule based on whatever the previous year's record was, and finish, it's not all the same.

“And so, I do think there is something to be said for winning your division. That means something.”

We could go through each point of reasoning McVay used to come to his decision, but here is the simple fact about sports. Rivalry drives the product, heated competition drives the product; outside of a select few instances, most rivals play in the same division. If the division crown means absolutely nothing, as it would by not granting the winner a home game, no one would care about the rivalry.

Biggest threat to the NFL is the saying, "pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered."

Their greed might catch up to them. It's great for now, but they're getting awfully close to diluting the product.

They're getting closer to an NBA-style 8 team playoff field. I'd hate that.

Maybe instead of going the whole way, give every division winner one guaranteed home game, and after the first round, home field by records. In that respect, every team except the #1 seed will have won at least one playoff game, and more often than not, the pretenders will have been weeded out.

But I wouldn't do away with it completely, winning the division should mean something, and I'd rather keep the current system than go all the way with seeding based on record alone.

Nothing has been changed yet. IMO this is a feeler for the owner and fans. Not reading much support for it beyond a few articles crying about having to go on the road. These will be the same players/teams crying that they won their division but have to go play an outside game in the snow.

God damn the NFL are retards.

Keep playing with a formula of the biggest most popular sport smh

I don’t either.

Every season some divisions are hard to win, others are not. That impacts records.

Want home games? Go win your division.
Thank You, CG. You posted my exact thoughts on this mistake, If rule is changed

Also not a fan of 18 game season being thrown around. This is nauseating greed.
Ruining the career longevity for players, while owners sit back and gain from it.
also one reason the NFL is so special is the importance of each and every game.
Makes me sick
