I'm not a huge fan of Mannion, so I'm probably the wrong audience for this argument.

As for Goff, I think the way he was handled likely played into his lack of readiness.(if he isn't ready to play)

Most teams simplify the scheme and the playbook to help their rookie QBs. I don't see any indication that Fisher did that.

I don't think that makes you the wrong audience at all. Like I said, there were several possibilities, including Mannion was a wasted 3rd round pick. Now I get that a 3rd round pick turning into a bust doesn't necessarily mean that your entire scouting ability should be called into question, but still... we're talking about a QB here, not a backup linebacker. If they blew that pick, especially after reaching for it, what does that say about them?

I don't know if this is true or not; if Goff isn't ready, he just isn't ready. No amount of forcing him to be ready will make it so. Again, I don't know if that's true or not, but because I don't know I'm willing to give Fisher a pass on this one (no pun intended). Most of the camp reports said Goff didn't look so hot, so it would make sense.

Where I struggle to understand Fisher is in the treatment of Mannion. They used a 3rd round pick on the guy, when many thought he was a 5th or even 6th rounder. But now they refuse to play him, and in fact plan on moving him back to the inactive list. So what does THAT mean?

  • They believed in the guy when they drafted him, but realize a year later that they blew the pick?
  • They haven't been able to develop him, despite having over a year to do so?
  • They never liked him in the first place, but seeing as there was a lot of pressure that draft to take a QB they felt obliged to do so.
None of those options reflect well on Fisher or Snead. And in fact, all three of them could be applied to Goff as well, with disturbing implications for the future.

Start Mannion I say. That will say a lot about Fisher's ability to recognize, cultivate, and use QB talent. I don't expect Mannion to be a star, but geez, compared to Keenum or Foles from last year... you would have to think that a 3rd round pick would be better than those guys, right?

Right??
So I guess the same should apply to Tre Mason and Gurley?

Silver is one guy I can say I 100% believe. The guy doesn't spit out bullcrap.
Another fact for you, he's a huge Cal Bears fan. More reason to believe him on Goff related reporting.

If Case struggles and Goff makes plays he can't, you're going to read about Silver gloating all over himself with how Goff is the greatest QB ever.

I like Silver and I know he has a good relationship with the Rams and Fisher

That said, just cause he thinks that Jeff Fisher is doing what Jeff Fisher thinks is the right move for Jared Goff, it doesn't mean Fisher is right.

Just sayin...

You'd even believe him over Keyshawn Johnson? Tell me it isn't so.
Makes Keyshawn look even more like freaking idiot. Cannot believe anyone would print his story without validating his "Sources." But then again, there are those in the media who just make crap up without doing any real journalism.

Silver's source is Fisher.

Keyshawn's source was old 'smellin socks Jim, Packrat (the crack dealer on the corner), and some internet forum dude named licketysplit.

Media just wants to "pile on" after the loss. Had the Rams won on Monday, or put up a fight, this topic woudn't even be an issue.

I mean, Jeff Fisher was reported to want Jay Cutler back in his Titan days over Vince Young. I know Fisher wants to evolve, but he certainly isn't helping himself by hiring questionable coordinators.

Yeah, this is somewhat true. haha.

Somehow I think I'll be able to live with Silver's gloating if Goff is successful. Mmm yeah, that's not going to bother me a bit.

His problem is that his approach to offense is more or less the opposite to his approach on defense. On defense, he's willing to be aggressive and take risks. On offense, he is very conservative and very risk averse. That makes me fear that he could waste Goff's talent, and makes me think he probably would have wasted Cutler's talents.

So we are gonna take the word of a respected journalist and friend of Fishers over Keyshawn Johnsons anonymous source?

I'm in this boat. Start Mannion and at the very least we can see what we have in him.

IMO Mannion is a better option than Keenum to hold the fort. Dude doesn't looked intimidated at all, has the physical attributes and outside of having that pOS Williams giving up sacks every other play to his blind side he looked good at driving the ball down the field and poised in the pocket.

My issue is that I don't think Mannion is anything more than a backup. So starting Mannion to start Mannion doesn't do anything for me this year. If I were going to do that, it would have been last year.

Most of the camp reports said Goff didn't look so hot, so it would make sense.

Most of the camp reports said Wentz didn't look so crash hot either and that Sam was way ahead of him. It's all crap. One week in practice with the starters and suddenly Wentz looks like a competent starting qb.
