I know there are more important things to take away from this opening game Sunday, but I am still intrigued by the Fisher drama. I truly thought he was the right pick and slowly, gaff after gaff, became disenchanted and was ecstatic about the prospects of our young coach McVay.

But with McVay's style of "Let's keep the learning/reps in practice, and not play meaningful football in preseason", I literally have NO idea how this team is going to play this season.

So here is how I will score the coaching change:

Round 1: Opening game. Last season, I had high hopes for our team as they represented LA in the NFL for the first time in decades against SF. 0-28. You might have felt the same way I did after that game. Hoping McVay wins this round easily. But how would I know based on this preseason?

Round 2: First quarter of season. Fish was able to climb back to respectability, gaining a 3-1 record and leading into a home game against the beatable Bills. I'd love to call this a draw since I think it unlikely McVay wins this round.

Round 3: Halfway point. After a few heartbreaking losses, the Rams were 3-5 halfway through. I believe better coaching would have pulled out at least 2 of these games, but I'm a couch potato, what do I know? I would be thrilled if McVay takes Round 3, even it's 4-4 at that point.

Round 4: Final Record. No more 7-9 BS, right? Technically, although Fisher lost all control over the team during this time, the last 3 losses weren't his. He ended up 4-9, or 30.7%. So, McVay has to get to 5-11 to hit 31% to win the round.

Having thought this through a bit, I'm thinking maybe just showing a better-than-middle-school-offense might be the only bar that matters...

WOW! Just think of our fan base with this type of result. 3 straight wins, 1 loss, 4 straight wins (everyone is saying Super Bowl at this point) then back down to earth with 4 straight losses. Some of our fans on here will lose it at this point! Then we go 3-1 to finish at 10-6. Respectable to say the least!

I'll take it.

As an NFL fan there are few things worse than looking forward to a new season with anticipation only to get humped by the 49ers in the very first game. That was depressing.

I know we were 3-1 after 4 games but that felt like a mirage at the time let alone 12 games (and 11 losses) later!

Fisher's failures all centered on the offense. Poor coaching staff decisions, and lack of production at QB and pass catchers. Really think it was more staff than anything else, but the players need to shoulder some of the blame.

McVay immediately hired a top guy on the side of the ball where he's the least knowledgeable. He's not effin around. That's why I have hope this season. Think about this...

Last year after starting 3-1 this team lost like what, three games in a row on last minute possessions? With one of the worst offenses in league history. Now we have a DC who should have the defense as good or better than they were, and we should see some improvement on offense as well. Not saying this is a playoff team, but this regime has reloaded this roster about as good as you can in one offseason.

IMO all we have to do now is sit back and enjoy watching it come together. Might be rocky at the start, but even if that's what happens I do think they improve week to week and finish strong. So regardless we're in for a fun season IMO.

Gotta love Mac's optimism! He mentioned to me during training camp that he felt this team was something special, there was something he couldn't put his finger on that made him feel good about this team this season. I think Merlin has found where to place his finger, and it's stated very well in the above.

Thanks Mac.

We've seen it so many times, Old coach puts together a decent team but doesn't know how to coach them up anymore because his philosophies are out of date. New guy comes in and changes the culture and has a new vision. It's how teams go from 4-12 to 10-6 or better. Here's to hoping!

Hmmmm i respectfully disagree with you.

First McVay has played meaningful football in the preseason now Goff may not have gotten as many reps as some "feel" was needed but when he was out there he more then proved he had complete control of the offense. second we saw McVays offense attack down the field during the preseason on several occasions. Something that rarely if ever happened under Fisher

Round 2: I believe McVay can and will easily looking at the schedule the only really difficult game would be the Cowboys and thats without Zeke

Round 3 Goes to McVay we have way better coaching now.

Round 4 I fell McVay can get us to 7 or more wins in his first season. this coaching staff along with the players brought in and the new mentality should bring about wins.

I'll wait and see, I've grown jaded after years of defending Fisher until last season where I pulled a full 180 on him. Still thankful for him improving the roster on defense but I will beat the drum on how terrible his approach on offense is no matter how annoying it sounds to some of the posters around here

Right now I'm concerned with any team that has a good front seven and that's about all of them. The gaints have one of the best defenses in football. One thing Fisher was good at was beating the Seahawks don't know McVays record against them. And for all of the 9ers problems that front seven can be nasty and the jags probably don't have a qb but they have enough weapons on offense and defense to be a problem. The point is this team can go 3-13 or 13-3 first step is Sunday getting that first win for both McVay and Goff

One thing I can say as far as the differences in coaching, this years TC was much more productive. Every player was doing something all the time, even drills moved fluidly. No standing around watching the QBs each throw a pass 1 then the next guy gets 1 rep. McVay had all 3 QBs taking reps at the same time with 3 WRs, TEs RBs ran the routes for whichever play was called. The DL was working the OL much better than last year. Last years camp didnt get the players as many reps in drills or team periods.

I was on the Fisher train too, all the way up to the point where he hired Boras as his offensive coordinator. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't justify such a decision. While I understood his philosophy on offense, I just couldn't connect the dots between that philosophy and the draft picks they were bringing in. There was such a disconnect there, that it sent me into a sort of lunacy where I became infatuated with Case Keenum. Tellin' ya -- I was teetering on the edge of insanity last year, and I have no idea where I'd be if they didn't cut him loose. I might have moved to Minnesota and bought the house next door to Case. Then I could buy a real fancy BBQ and wait outside for Case to leave for work, while I was tending to my Chrysanthemums, and act like I didn't know him - real cool like - and casually invite him and his wife over for some lamb kabobs. We'd probably end up besties. And you'd all be here like, "Mannnnn - I wanna eat lamb kabobs with X and Case!" But I'd be all like, "No! You never believed in us!" and I'd just keep posting selfies of me and Case on here to torture you.

Well McVay really came out swinging in Round 1. Nearly 70 poin differential. Really was hoping for a blowout and got one.

The Redskin loss is going to make it difficult to hit the 3-1 mark to get a tie out of Round 2, but if we get past Whiners, feeling like we are going to beat the Cowgirls...

The good news is, regardless of the record this season, this team is WAY more fun to watch!

I would like to participate in this thread however I would get sick to my stomach somewhere along the way and toss my cookies all over my smartphone.

Over the course of this entire season, I don't think it's going to be very difficult to expose Fisher for what he was... a very bad head coach with no discipline.

The bar is that low.
