If we want to include up front bonus, he is still playing at a discount since he played in '22 and '23 for $1.5m salary per year.

From what I can tell with OTC, the total cash he's received since signing the new deal - i.e. 3/2022 to 3/2025 - is approx. $110m which equates to approx. $36.5m per season. That's a discount.

Bottom line here is Stafford is the best option for the Rams. No other option is in his class. And the Rams are his best option. He knows the offense, and the roster is very close to being a contender it just needs a few more pieces.

So it'll get done most likely. Unless one of the parties decides to play hardball. Which is possible but it's not ideal for either of them.

Stafford wants to get back to the Super Bowl and make it to the HoF. Going to play for a team like the Giants—that has a terrible OL, and one winning season in 8 years—makes it all the more likely that he doesn’t make it back to a Super Bowl and that the last memory NFL fans get of him is a 6-10 Giants season where he gets his ass kicked every week behind a shitty OL.

Not saying he won’t accept a trade but it’s gonna have to be a really ideal situation or to a team that’s going to pay him substantially over market value.

He signed a 4 year extension for 160 mill. It’s 40 mill AAV. That’s the contract he wants revised. Don’t overcomplicate things.
2022 was the last year of his Lions deal so including ‘22 needs to also include the signing bonus monies paid by Detroit in that deal.

Lions money? Sheesh, talk about overcomplicating things. No matter which way you look at it, he could have demand more and didn't. You've already acknowledged earlier that he's played at a discount.

Can you read? I said judge it by the contract of 4 years 160 mill so you don’t have to over complicate it.
Signing bonus money counts. Leaving it out of the equation is ignorant.
His Rams deal is 4/160

Can you read? The post you responded to INCLUDED signing bonus money. The $110m included the $60m signing bonus. Probably should make sure you fully comprehend before responding. Ok?

That’s the money the Rams paid him while he was on his Lions contact. Get it? He was paid by the lions via signing bonus and guaranteed money. That was also money pocketed.
That’s why it’s stupid to include it.
Again, don’t over complicate it.

You're missing the fucking point....probably because I was having a conversation with someone else.

I know what the Rams contract in question is. And that contract was a discount to market rates.

The other poster asked if it was a discount after including signing bonus money. I broke down the details including the signing bonus money showing that it indeed still was a discount. End of story.

Ok, lets find middle ground here.
When Stafford signed his 160 mill extension, his AAV of 40 mill per season was not the highest for QB, IIRC he was somewhere around 7 or 8th highest paid. In other words, he didnt squeeze every dollar he could have. For that one could say he gave a discount.
Better?

Not to mention I can't see the organization and him not working together in an amicable way.

Also you must not be watching sports the past decade plus.. because players dictate where they are traded to all the time.

Clueless as usual
He can retire if he wants, but the trade is still valid and he would not only make $0, he could be forced to pay back some of his signing bonus.
 
That would be pretty funny. Rams trade Stafford to the Giants for the #3 pick, and take a 45 mill dead cap hit.
Stafford retires, Rams keep the #3 pick and an arbitrator states Stafford has to pay back 15 mill of his signing bonus, which lowers the dead cap hit to 30
