I'm hoping he lessens the 11 personnel illusion of complexity stuff and better varies his personnel packages while focusing more on play action.
I wonder if they took the wrong RB to back up Kyren. Bucky Irving learned Coen’s offense pretty quick. It took a while for Corum to earn McVay’s trust.

A think watching a guy like Gibbs and Barkley break long runs may have McVay hoping to find a speedier back. Late in the season defenses didn’t seem to have any fear of the Rams deep game. Kyren wasn’t going to break any long runs. Tutu wasn’t on the field much. No TEs were going to stretch the field. Defenses played a lot of man and stacked the box.

The offense was a bit static except when playing zone defenses.

More than one way to take a shot.
True but our best shot is with Stafford. He's proven to play his best in the playoffs. There's no other QB that compares in that department. I know Jimmy G has been mentioned but there's a reason he's gone from team to team, cuz he ain't it unfortunately. He's also known to throw medicine balls to WRs, just ask DaVante Adams.

I was really big on Bucky Brooks pre-draft as I saw him as shifty as hell and a tackle breaker. When we picked Corum, I personally wasn't super excited about the pick, but as with any pick, I was like time will tell the story. If Corum doesn't show anything next year, I think the answer to what you are posting will be more definitive.

All this talk of Jimmy G. I guess I just didn’t see what some of you saw in that game. He had some really bad throws and looked very weak armed. In limited action, he could probably come in and keep things together. But I really think we’re toast if we have to rely on him at this stage of a mediocre (at best) career.

If we don’t resign Staff, the most important thing this FO needs to get done is securing a QB for the future by whatever means necessary.

Jimmy G-string ain’t it.

I think short term is the priority, with long term being considered. Garoppolo has always been a really good back up that played on a really good team. Then when he went to the Raiders he looked like what he is. A QB that floats at the level of the talent around him.

No doubt Stafford's numbers are middle of the pack, but if you think Grabmypole could have got this team to the playoffs the last 2 years, my opinion is you are mistaken.

You are also mistaken with your premise that keeping Stafford will make it impossible to upgrade the talent on this team. The last 2 years have proved that premise to be wrong.
I think Garoppolo could have gotten this team to the playoffs this year. His performance in week 18 was eye opening for me.

We got to the playoffs largely on the back of the defense. The defense overperformed, the offense underperformed.

That said, we didn't get Stafford to get to the playoffs. That's not an aggressive goal. We got Stafford to get to the playoffs and win the whole thing. I don't feel our chances of doing that are high with Garoppolo. We have much better odds of winning it all with #9.

Which is why I feel that our best path forward is to go all in with Stafford for the next couple of years to win another ring.

I wanted Bucky Irving badly last year. That was the guy I continually mocked to the Rams. I was initially disappointed in the Corum selection but now of course I believe he's gonna be a future all-pro. Lol.

We do need more speed in the offense but some of the issue is head coaching tendencies and scheme IMO. I'm not convinced things would have been much different if Irving was on the team backing up KW. McVay is gonna have to shake some things up and get more creative.

Y’all need to be reminded that the only QB’s under contract at the moment are Stafford and Bennett. Garoppolo is a UFA and it wouldn’t be surprising if he doesn’t return

I would suggest that some need to be reminded just how good Matthew Stafford is at playing quarterback.

No reminder needed. I figured that was a given that he would need to be re-signed.

I think everyone realizes how good he is to varying degrees. But, some may still expect more playing in the 2nd most expensive offense in the entire NFL (by $20 million over the next team). And one that may even become more expensive this offseason.

Yeah…enough about where the money was spent. We used our premium draft resources on the defense. The money went where it had to go.

Sure we all expected more from the offense. And realistically, less from the defense. But it is what it is.

I don't care what weapons you give to Jimmy G. He ain’t winning it all. He floats too many passes. He makes shitty decisions. He goes brain dead at exactly the wrong time.

You can come up with all the stats you want but when the rubber meets the road, you need a QB that has the mentality of a Stafford, Mahomes, or maybe a couple others.

Bring back Staff and figure out a plan to have someone in the wings.

Otherwise you’re rolling the dice on potential and a QB we have all seen doesn’t have IT.

It's hard for me to quit Stafford when we were Limmer and Dotson not blowing their protection away from beating the Eagles and potentially playing for a Super Bowl. I actually agree with the others that Jimmy is good enough for us to make the playoffs with. I don't trust him to win us games in the playoffs, though.

Coen was very good with the Bucs offense. He lost Godwin but was able to have a productive offense. One way he did that was by being creative in the run game.

I found it interesting that McVay mentioned Coen in one of his recent PCs. He also said that they need to be more creative on offense. I wonder if he’s thinking of copying some of what Coen did. The Rams offense felt a bit predictable at times this season.

Maybe scheme hindered Stafford a bit because many defenses seemed to be in the right place at the right time far more often than in recent seasons.
This.
There's a reason our O didn't score as many points this year, nor last, and imho it starts & ends with LaFleur.
Best evidence: we were down 2 scores vs. PHI. 4 minutes left. Rams go hurry up & march right down the field, twice--and, as soon as they went back into the huddle, immediately stalled.
This offense has all the talent it needs, including Stafford. It's the playcalling that needs to get better, i.e. more "creative", as it seems to me defenses have already figured out this offensive scheme.

But that's just it. Garoppolo was one overthrown pass vs the Chiefs from possibly winning it all.

He's been to three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl. And it might have been two Super Bowls if Jaquaski Tart caught that punt INT from Stafford. If that happens folks would still be saying that Stafford couldn't win it all.

No one is saying that he's better than Stafford. No one. But, it has been proven that one can build A TEAM around him and win games. Especially if the team can gain assets by his departure.

It wouldn't be as sexy a story as the hero QB leads his team to victory, but it is possible.

Before they did it I'm sure folks didn't believe that Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Trent Dilfer could win one either. And God forbid if Hurts wins one Sunday because scores didn't believe that would be possible. Guaranteed? No. (It's not even guaranteed with Stafford). But possible? Yes.

Him coming back really hasn't been the question has it? The question, and what needs clarification is for how much. So nothing has changed.
That’s the part I’m not getting. Didn’t they do this dance last preseason? So how was it settled last year? He got more guarenteed $$, forcing the Rams to commit to him. Right?

Why is that contract not covering this year?

The rams stated when they came to the agreement last year, that they wanted to take it a year at a time. So this shouldn't be a surprise.
They will probably do this dance next year too, unless Stafford won't play that game this year.
