I hope not, but there is literally zero examples with this regime working with a young QB. That part makes me a bit nervous. I also pray we don't get another Stetson Bennett.
Well, he did take Goff from being a disaster as a rookie to a QB that got us to a SB.

Yes that's true, but McVay was clearly frustrated with Goff learning too. AD even talks about how McVay wasn't willing to let the young QB come along more which is why we traded for Stafford. That's the part that worries me is McVay gonna be patient enough. Saying that I'm worried about it also doesn't automatically make it be that I don't think McVay can do it. I hope folks aren't thinking I'm saying that lol

That’s how you become a franchise that no one wants to play for. Trading Stafford to a scrub team would be the worst PR ever possible for the Rams front office.

Not to mention that Stafford is *still* a top 5ish QB and the best option for this team at QB. This is a silly discussion.
How is it a silly discussion if the reality is we could trade him? Its become obvious that trading him is actually an option for the Rams. I'd rather keep Stafford too but that doesn't mean the Rams agree. So how's that being nice to where players get traded to doing for us right now for in negotiations? This whole thing of doing right by the players 100% of the time is bullshit. I get it sometimes, but the NFL is a business. If a team wants any player, we need to show that we want the highest bidder. It's the main reason why we get shafted in trades. People thought we sent Goff to preguatory but he turned out fine. We essentially saved Stafford from Detroit and he won a SB and got paid. Sorry but I'm not ok with getting a minimal return for someone as talented as Stafford. Players aren't worried about negotiations once they leave us. We either pay them or someone else does. Most former players talk about the team culture is what they miss when they leave. If we are being realistic, most players take how good a team is and if their price tag is being met before signing in FA. Are you seriously telling me that there are players that won't sign with a McVay team because we traded a 37 year old QB for the best picks we could get? That's comedy gold to me.

These MFers piss me off, it's all about the money a bunch of greedy SOBs. I mean really how many millions do you need. It is an ego thing. I mean we work all our life and most of us contribute more to society then these guys ever do. I know they are talented and work hard at their craft, but they are basically here for our amusement and entertainment just like people in the entertainment business. If Stafford leaves for the money screw him, I'm sick of these guys holding the team up for ransom.

Dude.... its way more complicated than that.

Also the owners have billions, Stafford money is peanuts in the big picture of the money that flows through the league.

This ^

McVay still has to prove he can do it with a young QB, that he can get him over a slump and adapt his offense to that QBs strength and weaknesses. Stafford's availability after 2020 gave him a shortcut to go get someone who's ready, but unless there is some fantasy-miracle-never-gonna-happen trade like Stafford for Joe Burrow available, he's going to have to start over with someone new again, someone he's going to have to build up. Hence, I'd rather try to keep Stafford for a couple more years while he's still got it instead of crossing that bridge early.

Agreed. I’m just trying to figure out what they may be thinking. The factor that this deal with Stafford isn’t already done has me worried.
I think it will happen slower than mcvay wants. Money people dont think there is anything more important than money. So mcvays statement probably fell on deaf ears and we should probably find a new thread for awhile.

On Dart, I shared your exact sentiment about 3 weeks ago. Then someone made a good point that at this exact moment last year, Bo Nix was considered in that same 2nd to 3rd round range. Many swore he wasn't 1st round worthy.

And then...he was selected in the early 1st round. And then...he performed very well. A lot will change with value boards between now and the draft. It's too early to say who's 1st round talent and who isn't.

I'm not proposing the Rams overdraft a QB but I'm thinking an option they're considering is resetting the position with an early pick on a rookie contract. Remember, Jalen Hurts was a 2nd round pick.
FWIW, I think Nix would have been a bust with anyone but Payton.

He and Andy Reid can do superhuman things with QBs.

Depends on the situation. How much money has Stafford made in his career? I'm going to guess way more than the average player so yeah, its ego and greed after a certain point. With that said, to each their own but I really don't understand it when it's tied into I just want to be respected and win.

Players play for 2 types of teams
1) who pay them the most money
2) teams that can win the SB
This bad press stuff is nonsense

I wouldn't say just that. She chimed in on Kupp being traded as confusing and she doesn't get it as we were so close to advancing to the Superbowl. It would be safe to assume that Stafford most likely agrees with her. She also mentioned that her husband wants to be valued and win but not cripple a team financially. My take, this sounds like it may go shitty for us and seems to point at the Rams actually considering a total reset at the QB position.
Then we are screwed for years to come.

Hate to say it, but money is always a factor. The reason the Rams are weighing it is because Stafford's price tag is going to be high and deservedly so. Rams are weighing if its worth it to do so and use whatever is left to do their best to build the team around that or they are thinking of the savings they'll get if they go with a cheaper vet option and as a result can be more active in FA or saving those cap dollars for our young stars future contracts.
Those vets will probably never win a Super Bowl. There is a reason why they are available in FA, because when it comes down to it, they lose when it counts. Surround them with talent, it just takes longer for them to choke in the tournament.

Not having that 2nd rounder really sucks right now. I did say that the options outside of Stafford suck in comparison to keeping Stafford. Not meaning to talk shit but I guess I'll never understand why an NFL player that has so much money they've made over their career needs a shit ton more. Guess I'd have to be super rich to understand that lol..... Come on Matt give us a fucking huge discount hahahaha
The shit ton of $$ is a dilemma. I’ve thought about it and perhaps for someone like Stafford that shit ton of $$ allows them to give back a shit ton to valid causes. Which they seem to do. And if a dirtbag like Desean Watson gets a shit ton and doesn’t put it to good use then why not fairly give a shit ton to Stafford so he can put it to good use. Just my thoughts.

Rather have Stafford too, but its hard to know what the Rams wanna do here since they keep everything close to the vest.

I don't want to get too deep into it but many players do this as a financial thing as well for tax purposes too (Not saying this is particular to Stafford). Wouldn't surprise me if shit like giving back to communities is in their contract given that the NFL and its teams has a reputation to hold up. I'm sure there are players that do it out of the goodness if their heart too. In the end of all this, definitely think Stafford is worth keeping but apparently the Rams may be thinking otherwise based on that dollar amount. Crazy time for us Rams fans.

Gotta love mock drafts...since we are worried about blowing it up, here's my blow up draft with a shit ton if trades lmao
