God damnit where are our camp reporters? Drinking on the job again! :laugh1:

p.s. anybody got any nuggets watching our UDFA OT Trey Wedig from Indiana?

Had high hopes for him coming in.

Sitting at home just like you because all the TC tix were gone in less than an hour. If it wasn't for nice folks like dpjax and flatliner. you wouldn't have ANY camp reports. VRF and I will be out there tomorrow and Wednesday. Hopefully they'll be in pads so we can report on something meaningful.

Hell yeah, sounds good, look forward to hearing from you guys again. Have fun and drink one for me!

p.s. keep an eye out for Trey Wedig for me!

And a big thank you to @dpjax and @Flatlyner. You know we always appreciate your and @VeteranRamFan reports. You guys are top notch and I love how you guys have developed such a cool friendship.

Cheers!

This will be an unpopular take, (and definitely belongs in a different thread) but to my recollection, Everett was not pressured heavily or touched on the play. He went down with the ball in his hands when he had time to get rid of it.
It defined his career because it was all about anticipating being hit and reacting poorly.
We traded away another highly drafted QB for somewhat similar reasons.
Yes, that's true. Madden even called it a phantom sack.

But I don't think he did it out of fear of being hit, but because he thought he was getting sacked and the play was dead.

Maybe, but I don't blame Everett for that -- the team fell apart around him. He went on to have some quality seasons with the Aints. Nor do I think he was a pussy.
I don't blame Everett either, in fact, once Ernie Zampese left to become the OC for the Cowboys, I knew the Rams were doomed under Knox's choice for OC, Chick Harris.

Always liked Everett and never held him going to the ground against him. The irony was the Rams moved onto Chris Miller & Chris Chandler and could not get 16 games between them.

Agreed. So it wasn’t as close as he thought. He was protecting the ball. That is way better than throwing into coverage and giving up a pick six when pressured, which we saw often enough with Goff.

Wasn't that Norv Turner, not Zampese?

I despised the Chuck Knox retread. I wanted Buddy Ryan back then. Really wanted a nasty defense.

In 1989, I believe Turner was on the staff but as a position coach. Zampese was the Offensive Coordinator.

No, Ernie Zampese was hired by the Dallas Cowboys as their OC back in 1994 after Norv Turner left to become Head Coach of the Washington Redskins. However, yes, they also got Norv Turner from the Rams because under John Robinson, Turner was the WR Coach and Zampese was the OC.

I did not want Knox either, didn't want Ryan was really hoping for Mike Holmgren, who was the OC of the 49ers and ended up in Green Bay. Oh well, the two times I truly wished the Rams had listened to me was in 1978 hiring Bill Walsh and in 1992 hiring Mike Holmgren.

Ironically John Shaw recommended Holmgren to Georgia, but she wanted Knox because Carroll Rosenbloom always told her firing Knox or parting ways was one of his biggest regrets.

Getting ready to head out to LMU for Rams camp. Disappointed that I won’t get to see the Stafford/Davante connection but I think it’s going to be first day in pads so excited for that! Post a report later tonight after I get any notes sorted out.

Enjoy, brother! Looking forward to your thoughts on the practice. :clinkingbeer:
