Maybe it has been mentioned but McVay commented today that a couple former Rams have been working as unofficial coaches in Camp. Eric Weddle, who has already left, did not surprise me. The other was Lombardi starting-center Brian Allen. I always thought Allen was just far-too-limited physically and talent-wise but a very smart player. McVay was very complimentary towards Allen.

Speaking of the preseason games here's hoping Fergy can make most of them. Given how well Allen's been playing as a safety valve in 11 on 11, he probably represents 50% of the 12 personnel package for the opener, so McVay will likely hold him out with Higs.

Sure sounded like it was Colby and Higs in 12 with Allen and Ferg backing them up so far in camp. Pretty sure Sales and JB Long had some stuff on Colby being the other guy in 12 but have to look for it.

I like very much the way Bennett is throwing the ball in the small window of vids I've seen. He's potentially a QB2 at this level which is the role in question that would allow the Rams to move Jimmy for another pick.

Now whether Bennett is considered for that job in this window... Him playing well in preseason would be a required metric for that to occur, and on top of that he would need to perform consistently in camp. Which at this point we're flying blind really. So we'll have to wait and see. But don't make the mistake of reading McVay's bullshit at face value. Because Jimmy's QB2 on our depth chart for a reason.

Jimmy has his flaws, but I can't imagine another team has a backup QB who has won as many games and led his team to a Super Bowl, nearly winning it. As happy as I am that they lost that one, Jimmy threw a DIME to Kittle right before half that he got called for OPI - not at all on Jimmy and if not for that they probably win.

Despite that he still had his team up 10 in the fourth quarter of that game.

Yes the 4th quarter there and against us are the limitations - but we basically have Jared Goff as our backup QB here. I just don't think we can do much better.

Odd assumption on Garappolo. He was an NFL starter on one of the best teams in the league. He's infinitely more qualified to step in than Bennett is (if Stafford is injured).

Good grief. There was news coming out of SF that he disappeared and nobody could reach him on multiple occasions and that he wasn't fully bought in, which was why they moved on from him. He came up short in big games. And his game is predicated on underneath efficiency.

McVay famously said he didn't want to live underneath. We know stretching the field is a priority for him. He booted a better QB out of here for being a checkdown specialist.

Look bottom line is if you want to put your stock in a camp comment go for it. I am just not interested in acting like Jimmy is some unassailable QB2.

He also has stated often this year that Jimmy G is a starting NFL QB.
He feels blessed he resigned with The Rams & he had many options.

He predicates it to the environment & coaching staff The Rams have. It gives him belief he is doing things the right way!!

If Stafford has broken down, Jimmy needs the work.

If Stafford is fine, Jimmy needs the work incase Stafford breaks down later on.

Is it possible that Jimmy(33)can still be developed at this stage in his career? Maybe we should ask Baker Mayfield(30).

I didn’t ‘ stand my ground’. I simply debated your premise that the Rams should trade Garapolo and have Bennett as the backup. A three year old could have won that one. No laurels needed.

I don’t want to see him start any games this year, but if we had to, I’m willing to bet he’ll be pretty good with McVay.

Let’s not underestimate McVay’s influence on QBs.
