Rewatched the second half of Supe 56 tonite. Kinda forgot a couple details about how ridiculously monstrous Kupp was on the last drive.

4th and 1 on the 30: Kupp puts team on his back. McVay's balls clanking, BTW. All hail the Breakfast Club for getting down the timing on this one.

2nd and 10 at LAR 37: 8 yard catch to set up short 3d down conversion to Brycen. (Brycen!)

2nd & 7 at CIN 46
  • (3:06 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short middle to C.Kupp to CIN 24 for 22 yards (J.Bates III)

The insane no look pass. OMG. Speechless.

1st & 10 at CIN 24

(2:34 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short right to C.Kupp to CIN 16 for 8 yards

Noice!

3rd & Goal at CIN 8

(1:47 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford pass incomplete short middle to C.Kupp (L.Wilson) [D.Reader]. PENALTY on CIN-L.Wilson, Defensive Holding, 4 yards, enforced at CIN 8 - No Play.

Kupp with yet another do-or-die play, draws the penalty.

1st & Goal at CIN 4
  • (1:44 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short right to C.Kupp for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. Penalty on LA-R.Havenstein, Offensive Holding, offsetting, enforced at CIN 4 - No Play. Penalty on CIN-V.Bell, Unnecessary Roughness, offsetting.

Kupp wins the SB for us, but it's nullified by a penalty. How did he hold on to the ball after that dirty hit? Stafford sticking up for his WR. So they replay the down and...

1st & Goal at CIN 4
  • (1:38 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford pass incomplete short right to C.Kupp. PENALTY on CIN-E.Apple, Defensive Pass Interference, 3 yards, enforced at CIN 4 - No Play.

Kupp draws another penalty to make it 1st and goal from the one.

  • 2nd & Goal at CIN 1

(1:25 - 4th) Cooper Kupp Pass From Matthew Stafford for 1 Yard M.Gay extra point is GOOD, Center-M.Orzech, Holder-J.Hekker.

Cooper saves the day. AGAIN.

So that's a grand total of EIGHT, count 'em, EIGHT huge plays on the game winning drive. That is just insane. EIGHT clutch plays from the same WR with everything on the line.

That Higgins TD is getting highlight replays on NFL Network promos like it was a legit touchdown.

It was a huge play, and exciting (not for Rams fans) but it was also an obvious penalty on the receiver.

Few years ago, when the Robey-Coleman hit on Kamara in the NFC Championship Game was shown in highlights weeks and months after the game, it was NOT presented as a great hit and pass break-up at a crucial moment in a big game.

It was presented as what it was. A huge blown call at a crucial moment in a big game.

The Kupp Drive cemented the greatest season in NFL history by a Wide Receiver.

The most amazing thing to me is that he got up after the dirty hit on the called-back touchdown. What a fucking stud.

I wish the game winning drive didn’t get bogged down by penalties at the end. Still an amazing drive.
That is where the Bengal fans were crying foul. Not so much that it wasn't a penalty. It certainly was. But they felt because they got away with it multiple times earlier it shouldn't have been called in that situation. Crazy argument if you ask me. The PI they also complaint about was so blatant there were multiple flags on that one.

I think the Bengals were emboldened from getting away with it most the game they just kept pushing the envelope. Refs finally said enough is enough. I suppose they knew it was their only chance. Trying to guard Kupp without contact would be impossible.

I still don’t like that a holding penalty and an unnecessary roughness penalty was offsetting there. It should have been called a personal foul to the head wiping out the holding, TD is good.
Roughing in the end zone ought to overrule any standard penalty with no offset.

Fuck it though. The good guys got it done anyway.

Without the Higgins non-call and OBJ going down not to mention Stafford's elbow flaring up (missed TD to Jefferson) the Bengals get blown out. At the bare minimum, they lose by 10 points. IMO if OBJ stays healthy enough to play they lose by at least 14 and the game is over with 4 minutes to go. Freaking Bengals couldn't beat a sore armed Stafford with one WR and no run game. I was overjoyed when we were matched with the Bengals, I was more concerned about the Bills and Chiefs.

If they stay healthy, this team is far better than last year's.

That is always how it works. Break the rules with little or no consequences and you can stay in the game when you had no business doing so.
NFL figured this out from the Rams 1st loss to the Patriots. When was the last blow out in the SB since?

btw...
I think Kupp is now on a very solid Hall of Fame trajectory.
If he follows up last year with, let's say, a 1400-1600 yard season this year and then just a couple of really solid seasons, I think he's in.

Last year was an "all-time" season.. and as long as it's not his only excellent season, I think it's enough.

Hey if Madden didn't think Kupp's MVP SB, triple crown season was worth a 99 then nothing would surprise me. What a joke. What does he have to do? Not saying AD didn't earn his but so did Kupp.

The Higgins "touchdown" catch will forever go down as the most egregious non-call in Super Bowl history.

Don’t get me going!! With all eyes on that play in the GD Super Bowl and the intentional face mask by Higgins to prevent Ramsey from intercepting a jump ball pass, and it was still allowed. Shame on NFL officiating. There’s no one rewatching that play (Not even Joe Burrows blind grandma) that didn’t see that.

Hey 49 fans. Sorry, to gloat (no I'm not) but, the Rams, Stafford and Kupps playoff run, wins by the hair on their skinny teeth teeth (whatever the f*#*k that means Al Michaels) and ultimate SB win was more clutch and exciting than anything Montana and Rice did together. How about down 7-17 in a 4th quarter and winning 20-17 when you thought you had the NFC championship game in the bag, feet propped up, and on your way to the big game? Nobody had ever come back from that deficit large in a championship game.
One of the greatest and thrilling playoff runs ever and it had the be the Rams! Reminds me of the 1988 Dodgers. They just always found a way to win. It was all worth it and they can never take it away from us. What a season!
