He's says he is stepping away from the game to focus on his mental health.

I don't think that's his real issue.

According to NFL Network'sTom Pelissero, Gordon is facing an indefinite suspension by the NFL for "violating terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy." ESPN's Adam Schefter added: "Final punishment yet to be decided, but Gordon not expected to play again this season or maybe ever again."

I don't care that he smokes weed, and I don't think the current NFL policy will be around forever considering the legality of weed in many states. It's become out dated.

What bothered me when I read this is that he is blaming his immaturity, lack of self control and stupidity on a mental health issue.

What a waste of tremendous talent..........but I can't say I am shocked one bit. It's no wonder he and Manziel became friends.

They really need to just let guys smoke weed man. Who cares? They all do it during the off season anyway and it's not like it effects their perfromance. I get the NFL wants that beer money, but come on. Time to join the 21st century.

That said, I do think dependancy on a substance can be related to mental wellness so I won't get in to that too much. It's not the same as addiction to hard drugs or even liquor but there can be a dependancy. I assume that's Gordon's issue. Sad story either way for such a talented guy.

Least surprising news ever. freak you, Patsies.

An argument can be made that it was a smart play by the Patriots. He cost under 800K and a 5th round pick so had he been able to put his shit together it would have been a good deal.

A lot of dialogue was spent about how he is a superstar WR and game changer. I disagreed with that and while he does have tremendous talent, what NFL player doesn't, it's wasted on a knucklehead like him.

How do we know it's weed?

Good point it could be something else. It's been weed up to this point throughout college and the NFL so more than likely that's what it is. It's his preferred buzz.

If I remember correctly there was some cocaine and mushrooms found at the house in California he was at with Manziel. But that sounds more like Johnny Tricycle than Gordon.

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) reports that there is a “definite connection between mental illness and the use of addictive substances” and that mental health disorder patients are responsible for the consumption of:

  • 38 percent of alcohol
  • 44 percent of cocaine
  • 40 percent of cigarettes
NBER also reports that people who have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder at some point in their lives are responsible for the consumption of:

  • 69 percent of alcohol
  • 84 percent of cocaine
  • 68 percent of cigarettes
Substance abuse can most definitely be a symptom of an undiagnosed mental disorder.

At first glance, I was happy for the Pats. But, I do feel bad for the guy. Maybe he'll have some relief stepping away from the game and not being under the microscope any longer.

He's about the same age Ricky Williams was when he took his mid-career suspension/retirement/mental-health focus. We could see Josh again, "lifetime ban" notwithstanding. Best wishes to him and good luck.

As for the Patriots . . . Merry X-Mas, mf'ers.

Not going to get into right or wrong on this in any regard. I'm just here to say....

FUCK YOU PATSIES!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Now that I'm done with that, if it's help he needs, I hope it's help he gets.

Dumbest waste of talent in many years. Definitely screws the Patriots (which I like) since he's their only deep threat that's worth a crap

It's obvious that Gordon has problems/addictions - He knows he is losing millions and a career yet he can't not stop.

I personally know 2 people that have issues similar to Gordon and can't stop using marijuana (one lost custody of her kid).

It is a fallacy that you can't be addicted to weed or that it cant ruin you. Some people with anxiety issues turn to weed and without it they fall apart

This is a good read about the issue

Sorry Les but saying its simply self control and immaturty is hard to believe - not to the degree which his life has been ruined from substance abuse.

It bothers you that he is seeking help for his possible mental health issues? Who are you to say that’s not his issues? You don’t know the guy and he can be battling things you have no knowledge about.

Anyway, hope he gets the help and steers his life in the right direction.
