Everyone gains with this move. MNF fans rejoice.

Witten might surprise with a year of rest. He is still a big target that can catch. Dak now has a safety valve.

Could also signify a desire of Whitten to get into coaching. TE this year offensive assistant for a couple then replace the Clapper.

Or the other Jason, Garrett, after about a dozen more 8 or 9 win seasons. @Rynie are you down with that?

I kinda BLOW at broadcasting ~ Jason Witten

Maybe Witten is trying to redeem himself. I'm sure he's aware of how bad he was in the booth.

He could be thinking Super Bowl too. One last run before retiring.

How did they hire him for that job, especially over somebody like Warner? MNF isn’t what it was but it’s still a big deal and to hire someone without any experience you’d think they had to be pretty special. Witten gave no indication of being ready for the gig, he sounded more like one of the local guys you get in preseason.
I know they worked with those guys and did simulated games but it just never seemed to work with any of them, maybe the network thought it would improve but it was awkward and forced from the start. I can’t believe they were going to trot the same crew out there next year so maybe Witten made a preemptive move.

Why didnt he just be a TE coach? Don’t get this decision at all...

Well, position coaches don't get paid very well - his contract as a player is for $3.5 million, according to Spotrac. So even after agent fees there's about a $3 million difference in pay.

Likely explains it right there.
