Looking back, would you draft Verse or Mitchell?

  • Our corners suck! Draft Mitchell and get an edge afterwards

Elite corners are probably easier to find bottom third of round 1 than elite edges. Verse no question. Guys like him don't usually get out of that top group.

Hey, I love Verse ... I am pulling for him ... and, I hope you are right.

But Mitchell is also having a very impressive rookie season. This week, Dan Orlovsky stated that he thought Mitchell would win Defensive Rookie of the Year. Earlier, I did a google search and found three articles on the top-contenders for DROY. Two had Verse ahead of Mitchell; and the third had Mitchell over Verse. It's close.

Also hope you are correct about Sunday Night but this will also be Verse's toughest test, with Lane Johnson on one side and Jordan Mailata on the other side. Hope Verse destroys them both but that's a top-pair of OTs.
Dan O molests collies :-)

Also, as good as the eagles OTs are, and they are excellent, Verse has already gone up against top OLs and done well. He played well in week 1 against a very good lions OL. 2 weeks later I saw him bully Trent Williams in only his 3rd NFL game.

Verse is just so damn strong. Even if his technique hasn't rounded out yet, his power makes his bull rush pretty much unstoppable. Looking forward to seeing how he continues to improve, starting this Sunday night.

One thing I worry about is the rookie wall. These guys aren't used to playing this physical, for this many games.... And we have a lot of season left.

Better? Idk.. relative to what?
As far as positional value goes.. the NFL pays top edge rushers way more than top corners.
Verse is the greater value, for sure.
Mitchell is excellent, btw.

Elite corners are nice to have but so many teams mix coverages and play a lot of zone defenses. It’s become less of a requirement to have lock down man press corners.

I also think that there are fewer of them. Kids are more focused on receiving skills at a young age. Being a top receiver is all the rage. That’s why we are seeing so many each year in the draft.

I’d take Verse. But, I think a Mitchell level corner would help this defense.

Timing is everything. If Stafford would have stayed for his senior year and come out a year later we could have had him instead of Bradford.

gogoat1, you said it all...

go rams

slo
He also said he 'did not even know who (Mitchell) was'. That does NOT strengthen his opinion.

Quinyon Mitchell was a star at last year's Senior Bowl Week. By the way, so was Braden Fiske.
Mitchel was also one of the most impressive players at the Combine. By the way, so was Fiske.

Mitchell was generally regarded as the top cornerback in the Draft; and, likely the first one drafted ... he was.

I love Jared Verse, and I am thrilled the Rams have him ... but Quinyon Mitchell is a major talent.

V8 is a straight up BAMF, ascending on the same path our own Robert Quinn did in his rookie season.
Yes -- in fact, I had another nickname in mind for this front, the "Quinntet", in honor of our very own RQ.
In his prime, RQ was unblockable, abused OT's who had no answer for "Gumby" lol.

They're very different players, though.

Quinn had unheard-of athleticism and should've never fallen to us in 2011. He could bend around the edge like nobody I've ever seen on this team, had vines for arms that later had a plan on how to attack the left tackle, and an insane get-off. He had the potential to be a HOFer, were it not for unfortunate injuries.

V8 is power personified. He also has an insane get-off, but he uses it for mostly bullrushing with a plan on how to attack the tackle with hand placement and leverage to get them on skates. He also has the potential to be very, very special, and I hope to holy fate he reaches it.

Is it me or does Kitchens stand just as much chance as Mitchell when it comes to making a pro bowl down the line? Verse, all day today and twice tomorrow

Should mention that McCollough has more interceptions than Kinchens and Mitchell. I doubt that he or Kinchens make the Pro Bowl over Mitchell, though. Verse and Fiske, I could possibly see, but not Kinchens or McCollough unless they pile on more interceptions.

The biggest reason our rookies are killing it is because the Dline as a whole makes it hard for anyone to double or triple team one guy without paying for it. Also they don't know which guy is coming on a stunt. Not only that, but our guys are so quick pulling your lineman to block a run is getting stuffed by the unblocked Dlineman. It really keeps the Oline honest.

I don't disagree, and I think Shula is very good with the front seven scheme. But also I would add that when you have an edge come in as a rook who can bully OTs it changes things too. When your LT is worried the entire line is worried.

Also I'm a bit irritated right now by the Eagles and how the media is all in their asses tonguing that shit. Pisses me off. So here's hoping our young front whips these fuckers. This is a huge game for them. Hopefully our secondary doesn't make it easy on Philly's offense, just play the call and be in the right spot.

I understand clickbait as much as the next person, but is this a serious question?

Verse is the answer no question. He changes games, DCs are already game planning him.

No chance that the Rams would ever consider a trade between these 2 players.

This will be a fun pair to watch. Pre draft, a group of us were campaign for him to be our first pick and others wanted an edge rusher. Both players are having outstanding years and are on the way to being future superstars of the league. This game could affect the DPOTY race.

My question is, looking back at the draft and knowing how both players have excelled so far, would you still keep Verse or would you have rather drafted Mitchell instead? It's possible that Mitchell will make the Pro Bowl this year before Verse, but taking into account that edge rushers need more time to develop than corners, I would still take Verse and draft a plug-and-play corner to join him as he's entering his prime.

Let's revisit after the game as well.
Verse is the leading candidate for DROY. But he's much more than that -- he's nasty, a leader and sets the tone for the whole defense.

Mitchell is a product of a good DB group. He’s playing amazing, but he’s not covering teams number 1 receivers. I expect him to have some struggles against either Puka or Kupp.

Verse is absolute dominant against whoever is in front of him. He made Trent fucking Williams look average
