Looking back, would you draft Verse or Mitchell?

This will be a fun pair to watch. Pre draft, a group of us were campaign for him to be our first pick and others wanted an edge rusher. Both players are having outstanding years and are on the way to being future superstars of the league. This game could affect the DPOTY race.

My question is, looking back at the draft and knowing how both players have excelled so far, would you still keep Verse or would you have rather drafted Mitchell instead? It's possible that Mitchell will make the Pro Bowl this year before Verse, but taking into account that edge rushers need more time to develop than corners, I would still take Verse and draft a plug-and-play corner to join him as he's entering his prime.

Let's revisit after the game as well.

I voted that this poll is pointless, as we can’t say who is the better player until at least two years have passed.

However, in my opinion an elite pass rusher is more valuable than an elite cornerback, just.

So if I had to choose, I would stick with Verse.

Our biggest need last year was DLine, and especially Edge rusher. So Verse was the perfect pick. Keep in mind we were trying to replace Donald and get our line shored up, which we have done. Games are won in the trenches.
Our biggest need next year will be CB, assuming we resign Alaric at LT.

Easily Verse. No offense meant to Mitchell, but Verse will likely win the DROTY, and deservedly so. Who's to say he won't get into the Pro Bowl anyway?

Besides, we'll get Shavon Revel Jr. next year in the first round after a trade down and Tacario Davis in the second from that trade, and we'll be saying, "Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean who?"

As things stand at the moment, it's probably between Verse and Mitchell.

#4

2 different positions so hard to compare

My perspective is that it's a lot easier to win with a great pass rush and average CBs than it is to win with an average pass rush and great CBs. It also doesn't hurt that Verse, while young and prone to mistakes now and then, is capable of defending the run at a high level.

#4. But sky's the limit with Verse. He has the potential to be an elite pass rusher. Strong enough to push tackles 60 pounds heavier than him into the backfield. Athletic enough to use different moves to get to the quarterback. I'd prefer an elite pass rusher over an elite corner. Quarterbacks can throw away from the corner. Harder to avoid the pass rusher.

As far as I'm concerned? It'll change when Mitchell meets Mr. Nacua and Mr. Kupp. And given that Verse has pushed around damn near every lineman, especially with the pressure we're now getting in the interior, I'm confident in saying that Verse wins the DROTY hands down, unless voters are biased. He's elite for an edge rusher period. We're talking about someone who matches up with Watt, Hutchinson, all of them, and he's still improving.

For the sake of the poll, I'll go with the first option. It helps that there's a lot of corners in the next class who could end up being great themselves: Revel (as much as I really, really, reeeeaaally want him) and Davis are just two options out of a plethora.

Hey, I love Verse ... I am pulling for him ... and, I hope you are right.

But Mitchell is also having a very impressive rookie season. This week, Dan Orlovsky stated that he thought Mitchell would win Defensive Rookie of the Year. Earlier, I did a google search and found three articles on the top-contenders for DROY. Two had Verse ahead of Mitchell; and the third had Mitchell over Verse. It's close.

Also hope you are correct about Sunday Night but this will also be Verse's toughest test, with Lane Johnson on one side and Jordan Mailata on the other side. Hope Verse destroys them both but that's a top-pair of OTs.

And Johnson's thirty-four and has had injuries. He's not the elite right tackle he used to be. Mailata is definitely elite, but I'd mostly put Byron Young on him, see if he can match with speed.

Again ... hope you are right because I think the Rams need this one.

Mitchell could win if Verse and Fiske split the vote… Fiske has more sacks and from the interior.

Then again, if Fiske continues on this tear, he should win… he’s been downright dominant lately.

I’m looking forward to watching Verse continue to ascend and putting more space between himself and the rest of the NFL rook pack.

Pointless, ridiculous.
Verse is ours and will always be better.
Because he is a RAM and in all likelihood will retire a Ram. Could end up with a gold jacket.
Do not even know who the other guy is and do not care either.
Rams baby.
