I get that this is true for a lot of teams but it's shocking how untrue it is for a few bottom feeders: NY Jets last two years, Chicago this year (before Thomas took over as playcaller but then again when he became HC), Dallas this year, Raiders this year (before Norv Turner came back and then it was the greatest hits from the 90s which sorta seemed novel since they weren't being used!)

By my estimation (and likely completely inaccurate assessment), if Rams were to convert 10 mill of Kupp's salary in to a bonus, and add 2 void years to his deal,
2.5 mill salary +2.5 new restructure + 2 signing proration + 2.3 prev restructure + 7.5 roster bonus, Total cap hit of 16.8 mill & it would reduce the Cap hit in '25 by about 13 mill
That would keep him in Horns for 2025 and re-assess after the season.

Kupp will stay. He has to know his production since our SB year hasn't matched his pay. We will restructure and still pay him what he deserves as a captain and leader of this team and we will win another SB next year and then he will be drinking Pina Colodas in retirement with AD.

If Kupp is willing to restructure down to 3 million for each of next two years I think he continues to be a Ram.

I think with Kupp the front office will do whatever it can to facilitate whatever decision Kupp makes regarding his future. He wants to continue playing and may feel he can contribute more on another team. No one knows what he's thinking, but it may be difficult for him to take on a lesser role in the Offense. He's been on a Super Bowl winning team so maybe there are things more important to him than the money or chasing another title. I wouldn't be shocked to see him on the Jaguars next season with Coen now the head coach there.

No matter what the Rams do with Kupp (release, trade, restructure or nothing at all), his 2025 cap hit will be much higher than $3M because he has already received money that has not yet hit the Rams' cap.

Don't forget about the signing bonus Kupp received in 2022 but has not yet been applied to the Rams' cap because of the pro-ration-rule. That does not go away.
