Is this Cooper Kupp's last season with the Rams?

I would keep Kupp and still draft a solid number 2. Kupp as a third option is fine at this stage of his career. Losing him goes beyond production. He’s a locker room guy who helps out the receivers. Puka would not have had the same level of production if he didn’t get taken in by Kupp. We can’t lose him yet, IMO.

I dont think its much of it being his ability, as much as I think it is being mental for Kupp. If you have seen on the sidelines, and in interviews, he just look very tired all the time. Maybe borderline depressed. Something is bothering him.

I personally think he hangs up the pads. While some say he's lost a step I'd actually say there's some issues with scheme / Stafford with getting other WRs involved in the passing game. Sundays game against Seattle was evident the ball can be spread around but I feel our HC and QB like to zero in on one player which causes drop offs in production with other playmakers. This isn't the first time this has happened btw. This happened to Woods with his last two seasons with the rams as well.

Not saying he hasn't lost a step, he probably has a little but not enough to see the drop-off we've seen in the last 4 games. It's like, did he suddenly get old after the buffalo game? Lol

At the end of the day Kupp is one of my all time favorites. He never complained, helped us win a SB, and was one of the best WRs in the history of the NFL. He was the perfect example of what it means to be a team player.

Saying that, I think McVay would do himself a favor to try to lure kupp into the coaching circle. I think he'd have a knack for it.

I don't know why I am posting on a Kupp Last Season thread, with a playoff game on tap ... but I'm an idiot.

While Kupp does not seem like the type of player to squeeze-out every snap or every $ before he walks away, I don't see him retiring before the 2025 season. The numbers don't make much sense for him.

Kupp would be walking-away from $20M ($12.5M in salary and $7.5M in a roster bonus).

I could see the Rams wanting to move-on after 2025, when they could create about $20M of cap space for 2026, with only $7.5M of Dead-$.

Also do not see a trade this off-season. Don't think they would get much in return, and there would be a fair amount of Dead-$. Plus, Kupp is kind of special. The Rams don't have their 2021 Lombardi without Stafford, Donald and Kupp. I think that counts for something with the Organization.

You know, Darious Williams and Kamren Curl have the 2nd and 3rd largest 2024 cap hits for Rams' defensive players, with Williams at $4.66M and Curl at $4.2M.

The Rams' largest 2024 cap hit for a defensive player is Aaron Donald at $23.8M.

And, here's an interesting Fun Fact. If you add-up the 2024 cap hits of all the Rams' eleven defensive starters, the total is less than the above $23.8M that applies to Aaron Donald.

So would dan Marino not have thrown for more yards in 1984 if he had played one more game?

Would Saquon Barkley have broken Dickerson's record if he played on more game?

This isn't a huge deal but I think the point is kind of obvious. It's a projection.

Like Stafford hasn't played the last two years the last game... should that be an indication of his statistical decline?

So what you are saying we need to start adding "could've, would've, should've" to numbers to the records books now?

Agents are going to love this!

Well yeah if you calculate for 16 games instead.

For 17 games he would be 1002 yards and 10 tds.

If you look at his career stats - realy not that much different then most of his seasons.

I do think he is declining but to the point of retirement? Not yet.

I'd like to see him and nacua actually play a full seasosn together.
I absolutely love Kupp, but he got that contract mainly off 2021. Hard for me to say, but not sure he's still worth $25M a year. With Puca taking more and more, his best years are behind him. It would be different if he was making $15M or so.. I don't think he retires for another year or two, but given his salary, could get traded or released.

No.
This is not Cooper Kupp's last season with the Rams.

He will make critical contributions this post season and hoist his 2nd Lombardi trophy.
He will return next year, along with Stafford (and Donald- who finds himself hungry again) and help us successfully repeat.
Then all 3 retire.
So let it be written....

I've been saying the Rams should move Kupp for a while now. He has clearly been declining from his Triple Crown year, every year since then.

We have a young backup in Whittington that we should be using more than Kupp at this point. We need to draft a speedy receiver that isn't a child of the lollipop guild (while I'd love to get Luther Burden III, I'd be fine with trading out of the first round and selecting Jalen Royals in the second).

I'd trade Kupp to save on cap. I don't know what other teams will take, but if Deacon Jones was never a Ram for his entire career, I don't see why Kupp should be any different.

Deacon Jones was an all-time Great Ram. However, the Rams never won a playoff game with him in uniform.

The Rams don't win the 2021 Lombardi Trophy without Matthew Stafford, Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp.

So I take it that you don't believe the reports that the Rams were shopping him at the trade deadline this year?

Kupp is not Merlin or AD. I'm sorry, he's not. Talented as hell, but still a borderline HOFer. He had a short, massive peak, and that's it.

Merlin was getting All-Pro nods in his last seasons. AD retired on top of his game after ten seasons and never had the decline that Kupp has had.

I'm sorry, Kupp is not those two, he's not even Isaac or Torry.

Et tu, Memento? ~ Kupp the Great

That last game he looked fucking terrible man. He was dropping passes. He looked sluggish. I don't know what his deal is but right now he's a totally different dude than the guy he was early last season. It seems like he never fully came back from that injury last year. Because he wasn't fully himself early this season either, which is why I suspect the Rams were trying to move him.

By the way I always say that I never bet against Kupp. And I'm not gonna do that. But time is undefeated.
I thought he should have been checked for a concusion from the early catch where he hit the back of his head really hard. He looked stunned for a moment. I think he was concussed for most of his last game.

He will look better Monday night.

No. I can believe it.

I was posting how I feel about Kupp's contributions to one of the two Lombardi Trophies the Rams have won over a 58 year period ... 55 of which I have been a die-hard Rams fan.

I don't know how the Rams' Leadership feels. Also don't know if 'shopping' Kupp would be the best way to describe it ... assuming there were discussions. If other teams called the Rams. I would not call that "the Rams shopping to trade him". If the Rams put-out Feelers to teams needing a WR, I wouldn't call that "shopping" either. I would call it "putting-out Feelers" or "due diligence".

I also don't beleive there are No Scenarios where Cooper Kupp (or Matthew Stafford) play elsewhere. Just don't think the 2025 off-season is the right time. Earlier this afternoon, I posted some of the cap implications should he retire or the Rams move-on in 2025 or 2026.

Get him ready to become the WR coach at some point in the future...
Top-tier players who have made huge money (Kupp's at around $100M for his career) rarely become position coaches.

Remember all the posts about Whitworth becoming an O-Line coach; and years ealier about Faulk?

Ah, got it.

The way I read it - listing the dead money, that they wouldn't get much in return, and saying that Kupp's contribution to the '21 Lombardi should count for something to the organization - led me to believe that you didn't think the organization would trade him.

Pointing to the reports he was possibly on the market (I agree, "shopping" may not be the best word) was to address that they may be willing to move him despite those valid points which they are fully aware of.

As for timing of him being moved, you are right that 2026 is much more feasible than 2025. I do think there's a decent chance they trade him this off-season depending on how well they do in the playoffs.
