I have been having a conversation with reporter Joe Curley about the lack of transparency inre Gurley before the Super Bowl. Backing up just a bit, I was commenting about GMFB trying to read the tea leaves about McVay's statements concerning Gurley's readiness. I commented that it was as though McVay was a liar and they were trying to read through the tea leaves as to what is true.

Joe Curley: "
I don’t care what GMFB says but I think Sean burned his bridge in January.
He said Todd was 100 percent healthy going into the super bowl.
Prior to Gurley and Rath, Sean had been pretty honest with fans and media.
Now I don’t think you can believe a word he says

We won’t know anything about Todd until camp. Maybe until Carolina."

He's upset that McVay wasn't totally transparent with him and other reporters at the time. As a fan, I understand that it's his job to report facts, and it's Sean McVay's job to win football games. Curley said it was McVay's job to report injuries fully. I retorted that if it was arthritis from the college injury, it never fully goes away. It ebbs and intensifies with life and age. It wasn't a new injury.

This apparently made McVay a liar in Curley's eyes. I said:
"If it's arthritis, whose condition flares up at times, but is always there in varying conditions...(If you always report it, it loses it's informational value....)I heard that the arthritis was from the old injury...I think McVay explained that after the Super Bowl, I believe?"
But regardless of that, it's before training camp right now. It's a different time of the football year when less is on the line.
"If we hold all GM's and HC's to absolute transparency, then none are innocent. You can't be a little bit pregnant if you fornicate only at certain times of the year (before the NFL Draft and come playoff time). HC's and GM's are not transparent the whole NFL year.

*This is about Coach McVay's transparency (or the lack of it) and not Gurley's knee, so please do not make it about that.

Let coach do his job. If that's being non-transparent then so be it.

BTW I tell my daughters: how do you know when a boy is lying to you.....his lips are moving. McVay is a boy so.........

I understand Curley's job is getting facts and reporting those facts. Coach's job is winning football games and giving little info to the opponents for gameplanning purposes. Bellicheat had to prepare as though Gurley was the main weapon in the Super Bowl by how McVay handled the situation.

Our job is to support the team and enjoy wins/Super Bowls. We don't care if that makes it hard on the Joe Curley's of the world...sorry..

I finished with this, and it it's sort of Bellicheckian...
"I'm just saying, defeat the purists that only wink at the lack of transparency when it's acceptable, and then crucify a coach when he is less than transparent before the biggest game of his life? Report arthritis, which never goes away and only gets worse with time (believe me, I know), and make the information useless by constantly reporting it."

Make the arthritis report as common with no extra info, like Bellicheck would do. Give them the info so often that it's meaningless.

Is Goff about to get a new contract?

Is McVay a liar?

Is Loyal bored and starting clickbait threads?

:p

I kid, I kid....

As a fan, yeah, it annoys me that there hasn’t been complete transparency about Gurley’s knee.

However, I recognize it is part of McVay’s JOB to be evasive and not give straight answers. All season long, reporters ask the HC questions that he should not answer with complete truthfulness.

Calling McVay a “liar” is silly, sounds like the butthurt is strong with Curley.

No but it's not yet training camp time so we have about a week more of these topics.

What’s Curley think that McVays going to give away all personal and playbook updates to be made public for the greatest defensive/cheater of all time?

Dumbass.

Just as long as they aren't being fined for playing games with the injury report. Doesn't happen too often, and those fines don't amount to much, it's just embarrassing when it happens.

And the Rams weren't fined, despite Pats fans swearing up and down this offseason that they should have been. So no issue for me.

What's next???

Curley - "McSlay didn't tell me the real gameplan prior to the game! He's a liar!!!"

Hey Curley.
Nanny nanny boo boo... stick your head in doo doo!

This cracked me up.

I have always told my 3 sons... There's only one thing that you can count on from a teenage girl - THEY LIE!

Well, if it's one thing that Pats fans have seen many times, is their team skating along the thin line of the rules - and often stepping a football field's length over them, so they assume every other team does the same.

It didn't take too long to figure out that McVay doesn't give out complete information on players injures etc... He talks about things very well without really saying much. He has a gift for this. This is what NFL Head Coaches do.

Curley should have tried to get information elsewhere which may have been hard to find but, that's his job. He also could have speculated that Gurley wasn't completely healthy from his play and lack of play late in season. We all wanted Gurley to be healthy for the SB. I was fooled into thinking he was. Going into this season my eyes are wide open that Gurley's health is a question mark.
