Hi DaveFan -

The "inappropriate" option was an add-on component to our software that we did not renew. Look for a sticky this weekend to elaborate more.

In the meantime; don't say anything inappropriate and you'll be just fine.

IMHO, the "Inappropriate" option was kind of worthless anyway. The only way someone would get 3 Inappropriates without Likes canceling them out is if someone was posting Nazi Porn or something.

Simply reporting inappropriate messages and letting a mod take it from there will probably work a lot better.

Nah. I saw many an inappropriate post deleted and some very quickly. That being said, I think we will be fine without it. It also got abused quite a bit as some seemed to either target certain posters or use it as a dislike button.

That is definitely a suitable method to snuff out inappropriate stuff.

For every benefit there is an offsetting negative. With our members, there was less targeting, but it's certainly possible.

There is another software addon out there that gives more senior members more weight in the inappropriate tagging.

For example; a senior member's vote is worth 3, a junior member worth 1. Etc.

Without dredging anything specific up, here's, in a nutshell, my reservation about an inappropriate option.

At times, even though we're all bros (and a sis or two), something comes up that creates a rift between us as to whether we want the Rams to choose Option A or Option B (or possibly Option C or more). It gets heated, and we (all of us at times, even me) unfortunately fall into an Us vs. Them mentality, even though all of us should be Us.

When it gets to that point, you might see those who prefer Option A (just to pick one of the hypotheticals) post stuff that has no other purpose except to mock those who picked Option B. But other people who prefer Option A will "like" the post cancelling out any attempt to "Inappropriate" it.

Hopefully, any new system will be set up so even a single Inappropriate vote (and even if it's opposed by likes) can flag the message for moderator review.

No. Not bad. But they all have renewal fees.

Boffo was a mod elsewhere, if my memory serves right, you both have the right idea around control to prevent "abuse".

The good thing, our board has a large base of established membership who don't play games so a feature like this can be successful here, IMO.

Waaaaaaaay back in the day, I was a mod (at the time,THE mod as the owners were mostly absent) of the "Niner Haters Society" which was pretty much the opposite of here. Way too many Niner fans (and some Niner haters) determined to turn the place into purely a trashtalk forum.

And I'm certainly not suggesting running this place like that place had to be run.

This is always the way I've thought it should be used, there's no way my opinion should count as little as a 100 posts poster.
