No word from Soul Surfer still? He might not have power or internet. Telling us another week without power. Internet is only usable at night. No way I stream the game tomorrow unless I get in the car and drive somewhere else. Might have to anyways to get some more non ethanol fuel.

Yeah the cell service just came back on but we're still without electricity.
No damage to my place put some big branches fell within inches.
It looks like a cute little tourist town called Chimney Rock got pretty much wiped out by a mudslide and I-40 is washed out near Asheville.
Glad to hear @Ramhusker is good.

That's my biggest worry.
I won't see the game.
Thank goodness for Rams on demand so I can follow it at least. :)

Glad you’re good man! Sad about Chimney Rock. I saw the picture. I’ve been through there.. My youngest son was in a school in Black Mountain years ago.

Really sad to see that happen to that little town. The videos are horrific. Glad you're safe. Cheers.

Took this pic of the beach (NSB) yesterday. The east coast here looks just like normal.

The family and I vacationed in New Smyrna back in '19 and '20 and we loved it there. The beaches are nice and clean and really we liked how nice the area was in general. Thought it would be a nice place to live. I miss it to be honest. Not sure if it's still there or not but that breakfast place were C's Waffles is now (that might have been what it was called when we were there I just don't remember) was our go to for breakfast while we were there. Gotta give Flagler Pizza some love too.

Been my beach since HS (mid 80s).

The wife and I thought seriously about moving out there. We finally decided that we wanted to just keep it our place to do weekend visits that way it still holds it's charm. There are some fantastic restaurants for sure and new ones are always popping up.

Most central FL Locals prefer NSB as there aren't as many tourists as other beaches. Plus... Disappearing Island is the shit if you have a boat. Great bars too... Beachside Tavern has awesome live music and big time artists play there too. The surfing is better there than all other beaches in FL too... but that isn't anything to brag about compared to true surfing meccas.

And... it's the Shark Bite Capitol of the entire world. Seriously.

@Selassie I We plan to go back in a few years. Covid was real bad at the time so we avoided the crowded areas as much as we could. Also my daughter was born in '21 so we're waiting until she's a bit older first. And yeah we heard about the shark situation so we stayed out of the water of a morning and evening. Seen a couple of dolphins though.

Make sure to let me know when you are coming back Brudda. Your daughter will love it!

The sharks bites almost always happen around the jetty and near the Inlet. That's where the best surf breaks are and the water is churned up more at that location. The other problem is when the mullet run happens. Those are bait fish that school up and travel along the beaches together... the sharks get frenzied with the big schools everywhere. Other than those... you don't need to worry about getting bit.

I have no idea why sharks are so feared. Even the bigger ones like tigers, great whites, and bulls rarely attack humans, rarely eat humans. You have more of a chance of getting struck by lightning than bitten by a shark, even if you live in a coastal area.

And then you have countries massacring sharks by the hundreds of thousands for their fins alone to make fucking soup from them that supposedly doesn't even taste that good (I refuse to eat food that I know is cruelly prepared on principle.), and leave the sharks to die without their fins.

(Am I biased? You're damn fucking right I am: I have a hammerhead shark stuffed animal, and they're honestly my favorite pure fish. I've always found sharks to be fascinating animals worthy of more respect than fear.)

You’d hould name those countries and people and not beat around the bush mate.

It's mostly Asian countries, sure (and I was not beating around the bush; I was being respectful of people who have Asian roots). I have massive issues with Chinese desecration of wildlife: poaching rhinos and snow leopards and many other animals for bogus snake-oil elixirs, fancy ornaments, and other shit that looks better on the living animals, destroying habitats of their own rare animals and slowly driving them to extinction, selling exotic animals as pets, and killing a fair number of them in the process, but who fucking cares, they're only animals, right? Note my immense sarcasm and fury.

I have no issues with people. I refuse to put things on people when it's governments that allow and enable this kind of wanton destruction by forcing people into squalor and making money off of poaching, not educating their citizens on the environment.

And don't act like we're so innocent; with our numerous oil fracking and pipelines contributing to oil spills, having people shoot endangered animals like wolves, destroying the habitats of animals so our livestock can graze, endangering populations of animals by introducing invasive species (Missouri alone brought Asian carp for game fishing, and now they've bred and all but destroyed the ecosystem), we can rate ourselves amongst the problem.

Humanity doesn't fucking care about most animals; only what the animals can give them - and I find that a sad mindset.

I took this shot of my friend taking a little dude named Bubba (he's the son of a young girl who is actually named after my wife) out into the waves. Bubba is 4-5 yrs old. Bubba's mom asked me to do it, but I told her that I didn't want to be responsible LOL.

That is awesome! I bet the little fella had a blast and likely made some great memories that day. My son was 7 when we were there the first time and the waves was his favorite part. He couldn't believe how much force the waves had when they crashed into him lol.

Oh and I realize we're off topic a bit, but I had to give Bubba and your buddy a thread winner.
