Nice to know that Vegas has their first professional sports team beyond the collegiate level. Although the Vegas Golden Knights sounds excessive, Knights brings a better vibe. Wouldn't be surprised if they end up pulling a Tampa Bay Devil Rays into a Tampa Bay Rays in the future.

Bruins open Thursday night....so pumped. Red Sox play off game, Bruins opener on the same night.....life is good

The first hockey game I ever attended was the Bruins vs. the Oakland Seals in Oakland. We sat like 8-9 rows behind the Boston net. Bobby Orr stood out to me even as little kid seeing his first game. He was the best guy out there and there wasn't a close second. I was a hockey fan from that point on. I still have a liking for the Bruins except I can't stand Marchand and Jack Edwards drives me nuts. I can't listen to that guy...

That's crazy the first game I ever seen live was the Bruins vs the California Golden Seals!! Bobby Orr was gone by then. I agree on Edwards, Marchand is growing on me though lol

Damn, you guys make me feel young. I was watching The Blues in the 90's. I was a Blues fan before I was even a Cardinals or Rams fan. I remember guys like McInnis, Pronger, Hull, Oates, Demitra, Tkachuk, Weight, etc. It was a lot of fun seeing them go to the playoffs on a consistent basis, but we didn't win it all.
Also, fuck that talented rat, Marchand. I don't care how many goals he scores; he's still a rat.

I used to love going to Seals games as a kid! They weren't very good most of the time but I loved watching the games!
Marchand needs to cool it with the BS dirty play. He's like a serial slew-footer. One of the dirtiest moves in the game. I hate that move...
My only suspension ever as a player came after a guy slew-footed me, TWICE, in the same game. At least I hit him head-on...KOed him but at least it was a clean hit!

My Pens lost some key players this off-season. Bonnie and Kunitz will be missed. The door is cracked for other teams to make a push to knock them off the throne this year.

Kinda the same feeling here. Unless I go to a game (possibly the best sport to watch live) I have a hard time getting too involved. Basketball similar.

Pens just aren't the same team without those key depth guys: Bonino, Kunitz, and Cullen. Wish there was a way they could have kept Bonino, in particular -- he's awesome on the PK, plus his willingness to block shots is borderline masochistic. Cullen seemed dead-set on finishing his career in his home state of Minnesota, but he brought experience and savvy to the 4th line. Kunitz' physical presence is still a void the team hasn't really filled. He wasn't so much a goon or an enforcer -- rather, he was an offensive thumper, occupying defenders and creating space for the offense to operate.
Losing Trevor Daley also hurts some, but the acquisition of Jamie Oleksiak from Dallas is one of the better moves the team has made since July 1. He's been a much better addition than Matt Hunwick (get well soon, Chad Ruwhedel).
And then there are the long-term injuries to other solid guys like Bryan Rust, Ian Cole, and Justin Schultz.
Bear with me for a moment while I get on my soapbox to talk about Kris Letang. His best years are behind him, even though he's still relatively in his prime (in hockey years). He must have made the All-Star team because of fan votes, because he sure as hell didn't earn that spot from his on-ice play this year. Pens proved this past spring they didn't need him to win the cup, and we're fast approaching that time of year where he'll get injured and miss 4-6 weeks (yet again). Then there's his contract, which accounts for 10% of the team's cap. Personally, I would have dealt Letang and freed up the cap space to keep Bonino instead.
As much as I'd love to see them 3-peat, I just don't think they have the horses to go deep in the playoffs this year.

I'm sure I'm not the only one asking, but the question remains: SHOULD Marchand have been allowed to participate in All-Star weekend while serving his 5-game suspension? Right now, the NHL has no policy in place for this kind of thing.
OTHER THOUGHTS FROM ALL-STAR WEEKEND
It's nice that they came up with a skills event for the Goalies -- even nicer to see Marc-Andre Fleury win that event. Was sad to see the Pens leave him exposed in the expansion draft, but Vegas got a really good goalie and an even better sports figure....not that they need any help putting bums in seats.
Kudos to the Tampa crowd for the warm welcome extended to Brian Boyle.
Kucherov's hat trick had a little bit of everything. The 1st goal was a straight-up snipe. The 2nd goal was some sweet pinball passing from Jack Eichel. But that 3rd goal -- that was just sick....and it made Braden Holtby look silly.
Brock Boeser is about to become a household name. He showed up on the stat sheet in both 3-on-3 games, and he cracked the LED target during the accuracy event (which he ended up winning). Right now, he's playing under an entry-level contract. Dude's gonna get paid.
