Rams' All-Pro punter Johnny Hekker reportedly gets contract extension

This has become a two-transaction day for Rams punter Johnny Hekker.
After restructuring his previous deal, the four-time All-Pro agreed to an extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets.
Hekker agreed to a one-year, $4.25M re-up, which increases the Rams’ commitment to their top-flight specialist to five seasons. The 29-year-old punter is now signed through the 2023 season. This deal comes with $3M in additional guarantees, Schefter adds. Hekker now has $18.75M remaining on his Rams contract.
Having teamed with Greg Zuerlein since the 2012 season, Hekker joins Aaron Donald, Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks as Rams being signed through 2023. Given punters’ career spans, and Hekker’s performance through seven seasons, it’s a good bet he will be with the Rams through the 2023 season.
Hekker already has more first-team All-Pro seasons than Hall of Famer Ray Guy. Among pure punters, he trails only Shane Lechler (six) in NFL history. Hekker’s 2018 season was his first not to include a Pro Bowl invite since 2014, but in a defense-powered Super Bowl, the veteran punter did his part to keep the Rams in that game.

FYI go to the 3:55 mark.........Hekker runs over to the Cardinals sideline to taunt them with the first down call.

Hekker has been one of my favorite players for a long time. No matter what the guy has been working to get better every year and improve upon himself as a contributor to the team.

Guy has rocked out some of the best punting seasons in history.

He's thrown touchdown passes.

He's kicked extra points and field goals(?).

He's an overall great teammate and locker room presence.

He does his part to give back to the community.

In what many are calling the news of the day in the NFL, the Rams converted $2.25M of P Johnny Hekker's base salary into a bonus, creating $1.69M in cap space.

This helps accommodate the recent extensions for Jared Goff and Tyler Higbee.

Hmmm It's not showing that. In fact it shows that available cap is a bit over $500K. Hekker's cap hit went up by almost $1M. You would think that's what they would do, and I expected some restructuring with someone. But what has been released doesn't show that at all.

The most logical move would be to restructure Brandon Cook's contract. That's the move I'm expecting. They can open $2-$3M in cap by spreading some of this year's option money over the remaining years.

Now that we finally have a Hekker thread, I can bitch.

Why is he only an 86 on Madden 20? WTwhat?? Seems a little low.........like 10 points low. I don't know who is, but if Ray Guy would be the bench mark at a 99 shouldn't Hekker be at least a 96 or 97?

I didn't know this little tidbit and I was not surprised at all upon reading it.

No many punters have highlight reels.

Whoo, Lance Hand-Bricks bringing back some memories. It's good to know he caught at least one ball.

Can still boot 90 yard punts with him if you have a.good wind at your back.
