Michael Sam is currently listed as a third-string DE and will attempt to claim one of the 53 spots on the Rams roster. Mike Florio says also has one of the top-selling jerseys this year, meaning the Rams could face business pressure to offer him a spot.

Watch Florio Talk Michael Sam

Look, I get the significance of his story... But all I care about is winning football games.

MSam isn't on this football team if he's not among the top 53.

I go back and forth on this. On the one hand, I know that Fisher couldn't care less about jersey sales, pop culture, social justice, LGBT rights, and all of the important little tags and buzz words that society has heaped onto a 7th round draft pick trying to make the team as a third rotation DE/pass rush specialist. On the other hand, I fell like it is naive to assume that Fisher isn't feeling just a little pressure from the community, both St. Louis and the LGBT community, to do the right thing and help in breaking ground.

I really hope Michael Sam makes some huge plays on special teams the next 4 weeks and makes this talking point moot.

The risk of giving the 54th best player the 53rd spot is that the players generally know. They can see what is happening at practice and on the field. They know who is beating who out.

Right now Jeff Fisher has a team that would lay down in front of a train for him - I don't think he wants to risk that over jersey sales and I don't think Silent Stan will stick his paws into the situation.

I really don't want him if he isn't one of the best 53 players. People buy different jerseys every year that should not influence their roster decisions and Florio should get kicked around for even suggesting it.

 So you really think someone can tell the difference between the 53rd and 54th best player on the team? Have a cup of coffee with me. :coffee: :seizure:

Absolutely. What we're really talking about is Michael Sam versus someone in his positional group. Westbrooks or Conrath, most likely. And yes, I think the players will know who won that battle.

You think Kronke is going to push Sam being on this team for more jersey sales? I don't. The guy wants to win. Same with Fisher. If Sam helps us win, then he will be on the team. Media political agenda pushers like Florio care about Sam making the team because he is a homosexual. Then you have idiots that hope he doesn't make the team because he is a homosexual. The remaining 90% feel his roster spot should be earned by merit. I wish sports media would take politics out of stuff. Judge people by merit. That's all we ask.

I agree with you. If MSam isn't among the best, the core troops will sniff that out.

Maybe 12intheBox but I really doubt it. If you're correct then why does anyone fear the Turk? Because, you know, they already know who made the team.

Totally not buying that. I'm not saying that there aren't some political/financial decisions that are obvious to many of the rest of the players but...

Owners are in it for both money and prestige. Some owners WOULD tell the coach to keep him on the team for the short term bucks & buzz. Kroenke is a long term strategic thinker. That's why he keeps his hands off the team; he sets up the structure for success and lets it operate. If Kroenke WAS willing to tell Fisher to keep Sam on the team, which I doubt, he would only do it for a quid pro quo from the league which serves his long term interests.

Not only that but his assessment that Sam could make the team because people are buying his jersey seems to me to be insulting to Sam as well.

The fact that so many people are insulting his football abilities makes me a fan of Sam's. I'd like to see his play shut up his detractors.
