Sounds like what some of us have been saying. They want to sign him for a price. If it's too much, he'll be gone. Ideally, I'd like him back but don't want to overpay when we have some stellar OT options in the draft and possible position flex with either them or AJ moving in.

Hope we get him at a good price.

If the vision is continuity, please use the tag on him if we can't come to an agreement.

I'd rather over pay for next year to keep said continuity
Yep, this is what I'd do. Franchise tag will be around $19million probably. Top guards get roughly $20mil a year so I'm fine with that if we can't come to a deal.

I'm also OK if the Rams need to over-pay to retain and really good player but, of course, there is a limit.

Believe the franchise Tag for OL is something like $17-$18M ... so that ain't going to work.

And you eat up all that cap this year.
Multiple years, you can play with the structure.
I see using franchise as the least likely option.

Yeah that's why I'd rather sign him since that'd probably be better cap number but what he brought to our oline this year it is worth it.
I don't think they can allocate that much 2024 cap space to Dotson.

$17-$18M can translate to 2 or 3 quality free agents based on how their contracts are structured but the entire amount hits the 2024 cap under the Franchise tag. I think the Rams would go high but there are teams desperate for OL that will have more $ to spend.

Hope I am wrong here because i would love for the 2023 O-Line to return intact.

The only pending Rams' unrestricted free agents I care about are Dotson and Shelton.

Jackson has already said he won't play OG. LT is the highest paid OL position and that is all he wants to play. This is why Noteboom who just wanted to start was willing to move. So it's why I see a tender year coming for Jackson who would need to play a lights out year like Dotson did at RG to be extended at the money he wants.

This is why the Rams will draft a LT this year and might play him at RT to gain experience before moving him in 2025 to LT. That is assuming they don't want to pay Havenstein his $14.7M. They might see releasing Havenstein and Noteboom to clear what they need to sign Dotson and extend Shelton.

Jackson's technique was hit or miss all season which is to be expected. That said he must take the next step in development if he wants to stay. He needs to become more consistent. He needs to strengthen, improve his footwork and hand technique. It's why I don't see him as a lock to be their LT in 2025 and expect the Rams to hedge their bets with a LT in this coming draft.

Biggest needs:

Rd 1 QB1
Rd 2 CB
Rd 3 LT
Rd 4 traded for Dotson
Rd 5 Edge
Rd 5 RB
Rd 6 They should have 3 picks
Rd 7 They should have 3 picks

when was the last time the Rams tagged someone?

F that. I rather draft G Beebe from Kansas State in the draft or someone like him than spend 19-20 mill. Go out and get Hunter or Josh Allen at OLB for that amount.

The Rams' cap space right now is between $30-35M; and they will need another $5-$7M for their draft class; and you want them to spend $17-$18M on a guard?
That number is low.. from what I’ve read it’s 50… and that’s before any restructuring.
I would probably sign Dotson.. and the cap number wouldn’t be that high the first year.
