"Rams might be signing Whitner"

Shit or get off the pot! It doesn't make any sense to wait half a year and sign him after preseason is over with. IMO, if the Rams were going to sign him he would have been on the roster all ready.

I'm guessing this is another one of those "if he's available after week 1 still when his salary won't be guaranteed and our safeties look like crap in week 1 or someone gets injured" sort of thing.

Honestly tho, what could be the holdup? Money?

Alexander and Big Mac are projected starters, not sure the purpose of signing him other than maybe for veteran leadership.

I don't read twits or facebag posts or whatever so don't know the latest, but I do know that Whitner adds absolutely zero for the Rams. They have his position covered with better players, and any so-called veteran leadership is impossible from an idiot like him. His mentality is exactly what the Rams have been trying to purge, not embrace.

I prefer to go with the safety cadre that we have in McDonald, Alexander, Barron, Davis which should include Joyner, Countess & Isaiah Johnson over a declining aging slow strong safety.

The outcome of the off season issue of TJ McDonald could open the door more though.

I agree and always thought bringing him in didn't really improve us that much. We've got the hard hitting, run support safety thing down pretty good I think. I'm more worried about not having a good coverage safety at this point. Maybe if TJ has some disciplinary issues due to his arrest I could see us bringing him in but I'm not that concerned about that yet.

I'm sure it's money. Rams wanted him for a price. Maybe the Rams are thinking they'll revisit it if they absolutely have to need him or he'll lower his price if he thinks they're contenders? Though, if he got an offer from the Panthers, I'm shocked he didn't take it. Before the season (not now!) they were early favorites to get back to the super bowl.

Or.......maybe the Rams really did not want him.

He's only an "emergency list" option in the event the Rams suffer an injury at safety. Whitner's only good near the LOS now, which is something the Rams have in spades more than just about any other team in the league... TJ, Alexander, Barron would all supplant most teams' SS as soon as you put them on the roster.

Now if they think he can be the FS? Maybe, but doubtful. I'd rather see them ride TJ and Mo, even Davis (who made a great play last Sunday) and take their lumps as they develop than bring in a hired gun on his last legs.
