My son is a burgeoning football fan and he was SHOUTING at the lack of calls (especially holding) against KC. It’s the first time I’ve seen him do that. He was fine if the call was legit (he was casually rooting for Miami), but just couldn’t wrap his head around why the game is refereed like this.

The NFL needs to fix this because those Swifties aren’t gonna stay once Kelce retires this or next year and potential new fans who might become lifelong fans are really turned off by it

The ball is in play on the hold, hence live.

The ball is incomplete on the pass. Foul considered to occur afterwards. Play is dead, penalty occurs after.

Both enforced along a timeline. Holding 10 yards back. 2nd down and 20. Roughing enforced after holding measured off.

15 yards forward and automatic first down. Play results in a first and 10.

Therefore, live penalty enforced, then dead ball foul enforced.

Hopefully I haven’t confused more, but that’s the technical gist broken into layperson terms. I had to learn this too, it takes a few efforts and helps when you’re on the field to recognize what has transpired.
