Is there any doubt that Bradford is the most important asset on the team?

Is a solid O line more important to his health than having a true #1 WR?

Having a guy who can win at the line of scrimmage definitely would give bradford an outlet when blitzed but there is no doubt IMO that a Solid O line is infinitely more important

Really depends on how you want to look at it. I agree having that great OL will physically protect him most of the time... But someone getting separation and getting open quick will sure make matters better so he doesn't have to hold onto the football all the time and take those hits..... Hoping Tavon Austin has settled in after his rookie year so he'll be able to adjust his routes based on the defense to get open quickly by using his speed and quickness. He should be a major threat next year (excluding injuries).

Just depends on how you want to look at it, both areas could use help still. Bradford did get hurt this year because he couldn't find anyone open, thus he took off from the pocket. Granted it was a freak injury... Someone getting open would have helped in that situation.

Look at the Lions for your answer. Their OL is no better than ours the last two yrs. And Stafford had a monster yr w Calvin 2 yrs ago. He was inconsistent last yr, but that is what a goto everydown wr brings. Bradford has never had that luxury. Some qbs dont need it ala Brady Manning Rodgers. Some do ala Stafford Dalton Bradford and most others. If we get one Bradford and the offense will not be a problem.

Yes and yes.

Hey Ausmurp, did you know that Stafford has missed 19 games to injuries in only 5 years? Just saying.

I agree. If receivers don't get separation or drop the ball, then it makes little difference if Bradford has time. When Rodgers isn't getting sacked, he's throwing TD passes.

Did you know the Rams allowed the fewest sacks of any NFC West team in 2013?

thats also a bit misleading- we max protected a ton- 2 and 3 te sets etc.

doesnt have to be either or people- if we took Watkins, it doesnt mean we cant address the oline with other picks right? we still have Long and Barks at OT- lets see abou FA- but OG's can be had all throughout the draft. Ilove Robinson, and hope we get him potentially, but Watkins helps in many ways- laid out by some already in this thread.

You think we're the only team that max protected a ton?

The Niners didn't have any weapons outside Vernon davis and Anquan Boldin - not to mention are used as an example for drafting o-line in the first....kinda funny to see them get a free pass.

Not to mention a lot of our "leaky o-line" can easily be attributed to TE and RB play in blitz pick up and pass/run pro

uh Crabtree??? and Vernon Davis is one of the most talented TEs in the NFL- fastest- and Boldin is a proven possession wr- both are far better than anything we have, and throw in Crab- another talented WR. and no they didnt play as many 2 te and 3 te sets as we did to help our QB- They are build differently- we can certainly benefit from an outside threat like Watkins- no question about it.

Its a little unfair to look at the lions for an example. You're comparing Megatron to mere mortals.

uhh what? With bradford the first 4 games, we ran a spread - that's not max protect, that's max exposure.. especially when you consider what happened anytime you asked Drich and jared Cook to block

you're right- and the line didnt hold up, and we didnt have he right plan in place to run it- wrong RB etc too. Plenty issues. We had to max protect after week 4- so for 12 game we did. When you cant run the ball- teams can play soft coverage and blitz on obvious passing down etc and kill you- which is what happened. WE had no wrs on the outside to scare anyone- and we had no run game- on top of bad D first 4 games- so there were MANY issues going on.

WE still need a real threat on the outside, and we need better protection up front. We can accomplish both in this draft.

Alex Smith really didn't hit his stride until Crabtree put it together, so there's that. But the Vikings made it to the Playoffs when they beefed up their line with Matt Kalil. And the Cowboys haven't been to the playoffs since drafting Dez Bryant.

There is no right or wrong, and probably a bazillion ways to spin this one.

Bradford took off because the protection broke down not because he could not find anyone.

He was under pressure within 2 seconds of the snap. O line problem not WR

Where did they rank in pass attempts per game? Especially after Bradford was out.

Do we have Long? He is on the roster but will he be playing in preseason? First quarter of the year? No one has that answer right now.

Ehhh I think it's a tougher call then you think it is. He had 3 seconds to throw, he kind of started running after 2.5 seconds, didn't seem like the pocket was collapsing that badly, maybe the pressure just got to him and he bolted? Had he had a very good WR imo, maybe he would have made a throw within those 3 seconds? Who knows exactly... But I don't disagree with your post blackbart. I would totally love to draft a prospect like Robinson, even Mathews because having a great OL should physically make Bradford more of a confident passer. However, a Watkins does sound tempting as well... Getting a combo like Robinson and Watkins with our first two picks would be... A dream scenario haha.

And with that said, didn't quick drop a TD pass on that drive or the drive before Bradford got hurt? That was a dime of a pass too... :(

Yea and Bradford got pounded.
