Report: Former Clemson Tiger Derion Kendrick Arrested in Rock Hill​

Derion Kendrick, a former Clemson cornerback who was kicked off the team in February, was found asleep in a car with a gun in his lap around 3 a.m. by Rock Hill police officers, court records obtained by The State showed.

Former Clemson football player Derion Kendrick was arrested Friday morning on gun and drug charges, according to a report from The State.
Kendrick, a senior cornerback who was kicked off the team by head coach Dabo Swinney in February, was found asleep in a car with a gun in his lap around 3 a.m. by Rock Hill police officers, court records obtained by The State showed. He also had a small amount of marijuana, which led to a simple possession charge.
The gun charge is considered a misdemeanor, and he was taken to the Rock Hill jail, where he appeared in court and was later released on a personal recognizance bond.
Kendrick, a Rock Hill native, entered the NCAA transfer portal after he no longer appeared on Clemson's official roster on Feb. 28. Swinney said a day later that there wasn't much to say about Kendrick's departure.
"He’s a young man that I’ve always loved as a football player," Swinney said March 1. "He’s got a really good heart. He’s never been a disrespectful young man or anything like that. Just sometimes there just needs to be a change.”
Kendrick, an All-ACC selection, had his run-ins with Swinney during his three-year career. He was suspended for two games in 2020, when he also had Kendrick had 20 tackles, one for loss, six pass breakups, one sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. He played in nine games and was expected to be a starter again in 2021 before leaving the program.

Anyway,

Regarding DK, why was he pulled over at 2:30am? I assume he had left SoFi much sooner than that.. it seems like there's more to the situation.

Perhaps he was pulled over for speeding and he admitted to the officers that he had an illegal firearm in the vehicle.

Or, perhaps he was pulled over for speeding, and fries to hide the firearm from him making the situation worse.

DUI on weed, alcohol, and prescription medication is illegal. Again, if cop smells it on him, he may use that as a right to search.

This is CA and LA County, if charged and he pleas, it’ll likely be reduced to community service during the off-season.

Whatever happens here I'll just say the Rams need to quit with guys who have behavior flags. We need engaged pros who can be relied upon. Even if you get them late they have the ability to let you down by not being reliable. Guys who fit We Not Me. Unless it's just a bullshit slogan of course.

I was pulling for this kid. Quite pissed about this.

Let's keep this about the facts at hand about Kendrick and not about your opinion of gun laws, 2nd Amendment, The Constitution, gun owners, anti-gun people, etc...

That it even happened though is a window into his judgment and decision-making as was mentioned earlier.
 
If he has a Felony on his record for his previous charge, than he will be doing time.

Convicted felons are not permitted to have firearms in California.

I'm just irritated by the whole thing.
As far as innocence/guilt... having a previous similar incident, I'm not particularly inclined to doubt he had a weapon and that it was not legally in his possession.
Bummer.
 
Look there were clear signs of behavior issues with this kid. I've been saying it for months. I am not surprised. Guilty or Innocent all that matters is he had the gun in his possession and it's against the law. It's a reflection of his personal attitude. You can see it on the field as well. When he allowed Debo to simply run by him with no effort I was done with him totally from that time on. It's reflective of an attitude that is a deal breaker IMO.

There is no question the Commissioner will suspend him. So it's time to move on. The Rams have 3 CBs on their PS. Of the guys on the roster all are too raw to start. Of the three on the PS Ojemudia would seem to be the best option. Give him a shot and see if they have another Witherspoon like gem. Looking at the FA list it looks pretty bare. So the replacement starter will probably come from the roster or PS. Michael knows the system and has talent that he flashed in Denver in a simular system.

All I know if Kendrick never sees the field again in a Ram uniform that would be just fine with me. Poor Morris his buddy misbehaved his way off the team.
