Could Sam Bradford be primed for a Joe Flacco-esque extension? Would the Rams be a playoff team if they were in another division? Will the Rams defense lead the NFL in sacks this year? All of these questions are answered by D’Marco Farr and Randy Karraker on 101ESPN.

If Sam Bradford wins a Super Bowl for the Rams in 2014/2015...Then I would pay him, however, until then his next contract should be cap friendly because he was fortunate to get the last big contracts for number one picks and the Rams stuck with him through turbulence so I expect Bradford's next deal to be fair and equitable for both parties.

Fair and equitable to both parties would see him get middle of the road QB money. So $15m per year roughly.

i.e. what he is paid now.
 
Brady signed a 3 year $27 mill contract last year, freeing up all sorts of cap space for the Patsies....would love to see SB do the same thing

I'd love to be able to resign him for 15 a year, that's not a huge number for a QB. But, I would put some incentives in there that he only gets that much if he stays healthy.
 
I think he's probably, if he plays the way I am expecting in 2014, going to be looking at a Romo-esque contract. $18m/year AAV, 6 or so years, about a third of it guaranteed.

FWIW, the season I expect out of Bradford is:
65% completion
4000 yards
30-35 TDs
10-15 INTs
Coming out to about a 100 passer rating
 
He plays well yeah, he will be in that dollar ball park. It's not just what Bradford does, his value will also depend on what other QB's will be FA's that season and what's available in the draft.

Exactly. I suppose he could take a lot less than market value - but I never expect a player to do so. The NFL is rough, with frequent crippling injuries. I totally understand a player wanting to maximize his pay for that.

And what was on his last contract was irrelevant. The Rams were going to pay whomever they drafted that money - it was just the way the contract structure worked. It is dead money - his next contract is going to be based on what value the team expects him to supply over it's length. Just like players picking up their second contract under the new rookie system won't be getting more money than they're worth, because they were underpaid on their rookie contract.

I could see him taking a little less because he seems to be a team first guy. But his reps will make sure it's a fair contract, that's what they do. Maybe a mil. or two less a year, or take it as bonuses instead of straight salary. And you are so correct his first contract means nothing.

A healthy effective Bradford is looking at least the same money as his first contract, Rams win the SB or even go to the SB the price goes up. It will be a front loaded contract that the Rams can get away from if they have too. Demoff is smart.
Besides his performance and health the main tact his agents will take is who do the Rams have on the roster that can replace him. The Rams know they have no other legit options at this time and unless they draft a QB very high next year they will have to succeed that point which drives Bradfords value much higher. Leverage.
If Bradford becomes one of the top QB's he will get two more premium contracts and along with his rookie deal he could become the highest paid player for his career in NFL history.

I tend to agree.

Bradford will get paid, but I don't see him as the type to squeeze every dollar out.

I could be wrong. But that's my suspicion.

EDIT: and... If he works out a fair deal, he'll earn a lot of fans in STL. That city appreciates it's sports heroes, especially those that "return the favor". Albert Pujols gave up something money can't buy when he left STL.

That is unless you see the arrow pointing up.

Let's say that Bradford is the #10 QB in the NFL this year. It's likely because his WR have stepped up and his O line has stepped up. Given the youth at RB, WR and key positions on the OL we can pretty much assume they should continue to improve or at least stay the same. Subsequently, it's likely that Bradford does step up to becoming a top 5-10 QB the next season. At that point, it becomes prohibitively expensive to resign him. So if he bounces back and does well this year we definitely should resign him before he has a better year the next year and it becomes even more expensive.
