Kids are notoriously insecure, especially when they become teens. Imagine having the pressure of living up to their father, being teased with their names. Elon Musk's trans daughter cut herself off from her father, even changing her last name and purposely cutting herself off from his fortune because she didn't want to deal with it (and given what Musk is like, I don't blame her).

But in Dotsons case he was significantly better in the run game than Boom has ever been. Mcvay clearly wasn’t trusting his run game vs Cincy and has mentioned getting stronger inside. So I would bet my money Dotson stays at RG if he holds up well vs Philly.

For the record I am a bigger Boom supporter than most here. I am just pointing out he gave up at least 5 pressures which wasn’t good vs Indy. The other Olineman, none gave up more then 1 pressure.

It could also be because McVay, LaFleur and Wendell like Boom at RG and brought Dotson in to be depth, which they've actually told us many times. And sorry but a LT should give up more pressures than an IOL it's just the way it is going against what is almost always the best pass rusher on the other team instead of a NT/DT.

All this is likely irrelevant because Jackson is hurt and was inactive this week. A big man with a hammy injury, which we don't know how serious it was, isn't a quick turn around usually since that's a hell of a lot of hamstring to hurt.

Irrelevant Musk and his kids names have nothing to do with the Rams or football in general. Let’s get back on subject.

Not disputing any of that.

I would say it speaks to playing Dotson at guard because his track record and experience there is greater than Boom. Yes, left side in Pitt, but right side in college and was outstanding yesterday. I said at the time he’d start the most games at RG for Rams this season.
Jackson has been better than Boom.

Just looking at what’s on the field.

Agreed that LT is often going to face a top pass rusher. Not always. Depends on the defense. Context is always important. Of course, a coach will consider who the LT was lining up against when having a bad game. Book has shown the ability to shut down the Tampa top edge rushers in the divisional playoff game. But In this case he wasn’t facing a world beater. Just saying.

I would never ever take what Mcvay makes public as anything other than what they want to make public. Mcvay is well known for talking up players to the media to protect the player or the players perceived value. There is also the concerns of breaking a players confidence that you may still need, strategic concerns and concerns of locker room unity.

It’s why the term coachspeak is a thing.

Further, he is also on record saying the best 5 will start. And they will, that is a nonnegotiable for any team obviously.

One game is one game. Nothing more. My point is it’s something to keep an eye on.

We will see more of Dotson and Boom and as you mentioned due to Jacksons injury. So, who that starting 5 will ultimately be will unfold naturally and become more clear.

Or injury may ultimately be the decider.

And as always yes injury will decide who starts on the OL and so far Jackson isn't inspiring a ton of confidence there and the reason I'm heavily leaning to one of the 3 or 4 starting quality LT in the '24 draft for our pick in the 1st round.

For the record. It’s pretty shitty the Avila is getting dinged for a pressure and sack given up.

If you watch the play his man #44 at 6:28 in the 2nd quarter is pushed by Avila out of the play. Then Avila goes to help on the wrapping rusher #52. And Avilas original assignment #44 gets a late cleanup sack as Stafford is falling down.

This wasn’t a direct sack given up
By Avila. Nor his assignment after the stunt from what I can tell.

Uh no. That is not what coach speak is. I’ll let the discussion die there. I’m not interested in arguing basic definitions. Coach speak is a necessary evil of not revealing certain things to the public in interest of the team and players. For strategic reasons and all the other reasons I mentioned that you didn’t acknowledge.

We agree the best 5 will start which will play out whether it’s Boom or not. So I’ll leave it there, Mcvay and the coaches will make evaluations and do what gives the team the best chance in winning.

Trust me, I have no ulterior motive to bash Boom. I have always been one of his biggest supporters. Go back to my posts and you will see I was backing up the decision of him starting at RG when others were complaining. I reviewed his first game vs Seattle and said he was really solid. I pointed out his huge game vs Tampa

Now I am merely noting what happened against the Colts. It wasn’t good. If you rewatch the film it’s hard to watch and concerning. It was his first start at LT in a while so he may settle in and if he does great.

Damn straight. Only started because people are on me for saying "Chatarius Atwell" instead of his more-well-known nickname.

But hot damn did Avila play well. He's been the biggest bright spot for the entire O-line, and honestly...honestly, I think he deserves ORotY votes just as much as Puka Nacua, because Avila has been keeping Stafford right upright, and his run-blocking, while not otherworldly, has been more than good enough to get K-Will and Rivers chunks of yardage.

I haven't been impressed by an offensive guard for the Rams this much since Adam Timmerman. A drafted guard? I was too young to know football then.

Def agree with Rams needing a LT prospect in the first couple of draft picks next year esp if Alaric consistently misses time this year. AJax can't be our best LT and also consistently miss time which is the same issue with Note.

McVay and Stafford wont be able to do ANYTHING without a decent and AVAILABLE LT.

Agreed but not how it's often used here. Most of the time here it's used when McVay compliments a player some don't like they write it off as coach speak and asked what else he's supposed to say.

Alaric could play every game when/if he comes back I still want a LT first but that's just me.

Yeah but sometimes I wonder what he considers his best five. For the life of me - I could never comprehend how he could consider Evans one of his top 5 OL last year

I think he says that to build Evan’s confidence. He has to stay consistent. If he says it in practices he’s got to say it in interviews, because you don’t know who is listening. Also, if he doesn’t say, then it surely gets back to Evans through a friend or family member.

But that’s why we shouldn’t put too much value into what the coach says when it comes to players.
