I think McVay is in a position right now where IF a top coordinator type who is on the hotseat (in either a HC or DC role) gets the axe, he should snap him up. Who would this be? Well there are some quality options poised to get the axe...

1. Jonathan Gannon (Cards HC). Look the dude is a goofball, which hurts him as a head coach. But as a DC he was very good. And historically when a coordinator gets the HC axe they tend to jump back into coordinator duties and kick serious ass. He's young, he's sharp schematically, and I would love to see McVay add him as <insert made up coaching staff title here>.

2. Doug Pederson (Jags HC). What I like about this potential hire is that he could come in for a midseason role of some sort, then slide into the OC job after the season is over. I think the quality of the OC affects McVay's teams. And I think Pederson would be quite good and also wouldn't be hired away too quickly even if he adds a strong offensive knowledge base to this staff.

3. Mike McCarthy (Cowpokes HC). I have Mike below Doug because he is more hireable into another job. It would probably be a collegiate job I'd say, but the two are similar in that they are WCO tree coaches who would bring strong knowledge to McVay's staff.

4. Antonio Pierce (Raiders HC). Lot of folks will give me shit here but that's ok. Pierce was always a leadership stud as a player. He's got the knack for getting players to run through walls for him. And I think he has the tools and the mentality to become a top end DC in this league. Pair him with McVay and you'd have something special. Problem is he'll be hired away rather quickly if that were to happen, though it would result in a nice pick which I'd be ok with.

I would say chances of them coming in as an advisor are very slim since whatever team fires a HC is paying him through the rest of the year. So they take time off work on their golf game and their tan and start HC interviews when people are fired.

Yeah think our only shot is a DC tbh and have no clue at that as Shula and McVay are very close. I’d want Gannon but no way is he fired this year. He’s beaten us and the Whiners. Guy has earned another season.

Not sure about Pierce but mad we didn’t go after Flores. That guy can coach some D.

I don’t see it happening. This team actually moves the ball better than most in between the 20s. Feels like we get into the RZ every other possession.

I think McVay sees the RZ issues as personnel issues. When you get down into the low red, teams overwhelmingly play man. We don’t have any WRs or TEs that win 1 on 1. We just don’t.

McVay hasn't fired a coordinator no matter how badly ROD wants it. And firing Shula IMO is stupid and McVay isn't stupid so doubt it happens.

Yeah me too

I don’t understand the negativity toward our D and DC. They’ve done well considering so many new, young guys. They’ve been keeping us in games.

The issue this year has been the offense. Get them healthy and finally scoring points/TDs and we have something.

McVay moves on from coordinators by them getting offers elsewhere. Gets called something else. Also this isn't intended as a so and so must be fired thread, moreso how can he add depth of knowledge.

But I suppose you can't discuss one without the other.

Shula will develop the better the talent on D. We have to be honest, as an franchise, and accept that mistakes were made building the roster for 2024-25 - we cannot lay this solely at his door. The scheme looks good the execution sometimes extremely poor

This said, I would be in favour of adding Pierce, or any coach with HC experience, provided they added something positive to the culture as well as schemes

Should be a thread dedicated for the "Who's first Coach Fired?"
With Belichick out there, it wouldnt surprise me to see an "Underachiever" make a move before the season salts away.
I feel like Philly is one bad loss away from making a move, and Buffalo cant be happy with how they gave that game away yesterday

I wouldn’t hire rat boy if he got the axe
I don't see rat boy getting the axe. But there are quite a few fans on the message boards that want him fired. Which is surprising. He might not be the best head coach but he's a really good offensive mind. I suppose one could argue he's had the benefit of a loaded roster for several years.

One thing I've heard the broadcasters mention almost every game is how much the Rams are blitzing this year. Something some here screamed for so we should be happier with this. But yes the DB and ILB need an upgrade so we're going to have a youthful roller coaster.

it's starting to feel like the Detroit years for Stafford and the Fisher years for McVay. He keeps losing and he might not Even get a TV gig.

What does the Ram universe where Staley remained the DC look like?

With the same level of talent? I still think the defense would be bad. Obviously some things can be corrected with coaching, but I think most it comes down to talent and execution.

I also think Staley was lucky to be a DC for only 1 season. Before teams figured him out and the aura fades. The playoff game against GB is kind of similar to how our defense is now.
