I was lucky, my GF Maggie is a lot younger than I am. But she and my ex who was only a couple of years younger than me were best of friends before and after Carrie and I got divorced. When my ex had to go for her cancer treatments Maggie took her and stayed with her until I got home from work. Carrie actually wrote her into her will for a hefty five figure inheritance so Maggie could give it to her parents as a downpayment of their first time home purchase in Vegas.
Up until the end, we were family, the divorce was really a formality and was as friendly as our lawyers had ever handled. The court stipulated that it had to be handled by attorneys and refused to allow Carrie and I to file our own settlement. That's fucking CA for ya.
