On the Pod to Win the Game podcast, Charles Robinson (probably the the most dialed in reporter in the NFL IMO) said that the Bucs made a call about Stafford this offseason just to gage if there was a deal to be made.

Demoff- "Send us 3 firsts and we'll trade".

Before or after they signed Mayfield?

I suspect it was before signing Mayfield. He didn't say. They were talking about Bucs/Jets joint practices so it was really only in reference to the Mayfield/Trask competition and the futility of it and kind of wasting the roster.

If it was before, that means the Rams decided they were not interested in moving on from Stafford as early as mid-March. So much for the “reports” that they were “shopping” him.

Don’t they have, like 30 mill of dead money on Brady this year?

If Demoff receives phone calls from those interested in Stafford, is that "shopping him"? Listening doesn't mean willing to sell, except under the most crazy circumstances as far as Matthew is concerned.

Exactly.

If the Rams take a QB in the first round next year they will be calling again. But IMO Stafford probably will not want to go. I think he wants to retire a Ram and I think the Rams will give him the last year (2024) because it will also give them a redshirt year for the new rookie to learn McVay's system and develop a rapport with the WRs. Besides, why would they strengthen another NFC rival? I think even the Bucs know that the Rams will be picking a QB next year.

Makes sense. You can probably make a list of the teams that have subpar QB situations and most of them if not all likely called Les this past offseason to inquire. I think this is where dumbfuck got his wires crossed. Word gets out that the Rams are "listening" to offers and next thing you know uninformed dipshits think they had him on the trade market.

The Rams don’t know that, but the Bucs clearly do?

You'd think the Jets probably inquired as well, as they did make a big trade for a QB and it took so long.

Yeah.. the "actively shopping" thing is really disingenuous..

That being said.. if you listened to Demoff on the 11... sure sounds to me like they were open to the right deal. What "right" means to the Rams.. may be what others would consider a tremendous overpay, so who knows?

My point is that I do believe they would take calls for Stafford.
