Cardinals reportedly fear torn ACL for Palmer

Whenever a player suffers a knee injury that looks bad, the team initially fears the worst. But it’s still worth noting when a team reportedly has those fears.

Per multiple reports, the Cardinals fear that quarterback Carson Palmer has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. It’s the same left knee in which Palmer tore an ACL on a low hit in the first throw of the wild-card game to cap the 2005 season.

The injury comes two days after Palmer agreed to terms on a new three-year contract. If the ACL is torn, he won’t be playing again this year.

Drew Stanton, who was 2-1 as a starter when Palmer had a dead nerve in his throwing shoulder, would take over for the 8-1 Cardinals.

In one of the posts in the 'What Cardinals Fans Are Saying' thread, someone said they feared they would win the game but lose Palmer for the season because of the ferocious pass rush by the Rams. He may have been prophetic.

Feel real bad for him. We know that pain as fans only too well (and having done an ACL myself literally too!). I feared it when I saw him try and put weight on it on the sidelines and it just gave way under him. Mine kept doing that for months until it got strong.

Damn that sucks..

He just signed his big contract... and didn't he tear his ACL when he signed a big contract with the Bengals?

No foolin!!!

Seriously, Rhody... No Rams on your fantasy roster next year.

PROMISE!!!

Next year is our year, man... I can feel it. Don't jinx us!

Yes. Eight days after he signed it with the Bengals. Now three days after he signed it with the Cards.

I agree, jjab. It was actually EASY to root for them in the Super Bowl.

Seattle or SF? Auto root against... it's like a reflex.

I like the Cards. Hate he might have torn his ACL, they are playoff bound and would route for them to win it all if that happens. Stanton looked good, but not Palmer good. Best of luck in his recovery.

Damn sucks for him. Now let's beat the shit out of the Cards when we face them Thursday Night.

Man that sucks I was worried it was something bad the way he crumpled. I never root or even tease about injuring a player I'd rather see them all stay healthy the whole year any time. I know it was in good fun but some of the posts on the thread about him signing the new contract made me cringe.

Feel bad for Palmer but this isn't like the Colts losing Peyton a couple of years ago. Stanton knows the system and has led them to victories. Granted, it's probably a step back but it isn't a death sentence for the Cardinals.

In a weird way or a silver lining type of thing, it does make me feel a slight bit better about Bradford. Non-contact ACL injuries can happen to anyone and my hope that Bradford has just had some bad luck is still on life-support.

Feel bad for Palmer and Cardinals fans if true. Having lost Bradford to 2 ACL tears has been brutal, so I can imagine how tough that must be since they're playing so well this year.
