Contracts are going up too. This free agency signings are going to be just as crazy. Phila ESPN radio saying Stills is going to get around 12M per year. Now, that's crazy!

I like the raise in the cap but if they're not careful it can and will kill the league...
The rise in the cap is based on revenues earned .. .so basically, they are only keeping up with their own "inflation". It will adjust year to year. It's not like they are pulling a blind # out. The cap is set and agreed upon by both the NFL and NFLPA. There is a formula for it. All part of the CBA.

Over the Cap says the Rams now are $36,394,280 under the cap.

Last year at this time they were predicting the Rams to be some 70 million under it. I guess they gave out more contracts than they thought they would.

The new cap is $167,304,311

does that include the Tru tag ?

Wow that's a pretty big jump. Guys, talented and untalented, are going to be paid up the ying yang.

Slightly off topic, but numbers like this and where the NFL is going, I can't help but agree with Mark Cuban's notion that eventually the golden goose will be killed. The NFL and its numbers are crazyyy. Even with supply and demand, I can't imagine how the NFL can maintain and grow its platform.
I wouldn't base anything on what Cuban says. I think he may be a little jealous that he doesn't own an NFL team yet. Baseball seems to be fine and their salaries dwarf the NFL, per player anyways. They still don't even have a cap do they?

Either way .. .the Rams were/are not going to spend big in FA ,and I for one am glad. Never liked trying to "buy a team" ala Philly, Wash., etc. They still have enough to get a couple top guys and fill out roster. I'm pretty confident they will get a new deal done with Tru which will help more.

if we are so bold to compare the NFL to NASCAR. Around 2001-2006 NASCAR was booming... it has slowly deteriorated, attendance is down, sponsorships are down endorsement deals are down etc etc

mark my words...the same thing will happen to the NFL in a few years...just as the Rams are poised to win a few championships

Tru was tagged at the Non Exclusive level. meaning his cap hit is only something like $14.6 mil. Much more palatable and closer to what a new deal would be per yr.

i don't think it matters what they tag him with this year. it is his 2nd franchise tag in a row so it will be 20% more than whatever value he was tagged for last season.

Uuggghhhhh... oh well ... get the new deal done. At the very least have some leverage next season and relief this yr. Can't do this game again next yr.
