ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the team has released Mychal Kendricks, who will turn 28 in September.

It was not an unexpected move as Kendricks was scheduled to count $7.6 million against the cap in 2018 with a base salary of $5.9 million. Kendricks, a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2012, shouldn’t be without a job long.

He filled in at middle linebacker last season when Jordan Hicks was injured and played 726 snaps. He had 77 tackles, two sacks and six pass breakups in 15 games with 13 starts.

In his six years, he has played 85 games with 74 starts.

The Rams had to scramble to create room just to sign their budget cost draft picks. Yeah, even if MK were willing to sign at a bottom basement discount, I'm not sure there's the cap space.

On the other hand, if they cut Saffold, there might be the cap space to get MK and get Richie Incognito.

He has been talked about as a cut for long time. He ran 4.47 at the combine. Going on 28. Cost too much but, could be a good fit at ILBer.

Kendricks was sensational this past season filling in for Jordan Hicks down the stretch, earning himself a top-10 grade among linebackers. At the end of the day though, it wasn’t quite enough when he only managed 725 snaps including the postseason. Only Sean Lee and Reuben Foster made it at linebacker with fewer snaps than Kendricks.

Barron is actually solid in pass coverage but yea if he’s questionable for the season then his $6 million has to be spent on a LBer such as Kendrick’s

If Wade really wants him bad enough, Snead will find a way to make it happen.

Someone is going to get an active legit linebacker assuming he's 100% healthy and hasn't failed any PED drug tests etc.

I actually think we are good at MILB. I am much more anxious about EDGE - some young guns but no real veteran presence.

Don't we have enough two down linebackers as it is? That's what I kept hearing anyways before and after the draft.

Yes, they have been trying to replace him for years, but he just kept beating out everyone they put up against him. Those Kendrick's boys can play.

Edit: I'd like the Intel also.

For whatever reason Schwartz has never really had a place for him in his D other than filling in for injuries. He never lived up to his contract, but I think that has more to do with Schwartz's impression that he is not the fit his is looking for more than anything else.
